Canadian pet insurance

So the big day is almost here! I pick up Chianti, or Willow, ...or Rogue (still can't decide on a name so any input on that is helpful too.) this Saturday and I'm having a tough time finding a pet insurance company in Canada. This is my first time looking for insurance so I'd love to have some imput from some of you who have insurance, and have had to use it. I really don't want to sign up with a company that ends up screwing me out of benifits because of all the common health issues with dobes.

I think Willow and Rogue are quite pretty! I use Trupanion if that helps!

RIP Brandy, thank you for being all I could ever ask for

I switched from Trupanion to Healthy Paws. I like Healthy Paws because it is a yearly deductible vs Trupanion that had a per incident. The cost was also a factor. I always had a $5000 dog fund however with my last dog who needed allergy shots every week I made the decision to go with insurance with this dog. I got the insurance when she first came home and was a few months old. With Trupanion it was about $80 a month and with Healthy Paws it runs about $55 with a 90% coverage and $100 yearly deductible. I just filed a claim because Dax had an UTI and received a check within 3 weeks of submitting the claim. No problems no questions. Healthy Paws was very helpful and has great customer service.

Healthy paws does not operate in Canada. Are there any CANADIAN insurance companies that anyone here has been satisfied with?

Trupanion offers Pet insurance in Canada. While I use Embace, a lot of Doberman owners are quite happy with Trupanion. They are a very reputable company. i know that there are Trupanion customers who hopefully will chime in. Like dobegal, I went with a different company because of the annual vs per incident deductible. I believe the Meadowcat, uses both Embrace and Trupanion. Perhaps she will see this and offer some good advice.

Edit to say... I know that Petplan offers pet insurance in Canada, but I don't know of anyone who uses them.

Thanks John, I got really excited when I read about embrace, only to realize it's another company only in the states. Unfortunately if pet insurance is anything like car insurance in Canada, almost all companies will be owned by one parent company which makes it almost impossible and truly pointless to compare and choose. I had truepanion for an Aussie I had years ago, but the ex got the dog in the breakup and I never had to make a claim so I really have no idea if they're good or not I only know that they took $40 a month from me for 3 years.

This is the one I send my puppies home with - Pet Health Insurance from Petsecure - six weeks free pet insurance and then it is up to you whether you continue on. They have been wonderful to deal with. I know one of my puppy people had a claim and even though the "free" insurance had run out they allowed them to back date to a "paid" plan and covered it.
