Canis-Maximus - Red Alert!

Wow the one story you can see on her FB page without being her "friend" is her asking people to share this story;

Canis-Maximus - Red Alert!

She also has this pic posted from Jan 24 with the caption " at 6 weeks old, he stacks himself on his own". I'm by no means an expert but this pup doesn't look healthy.

Due to the multiple problems found at this property and the unusually high numbers of dogs being housed and procedure without proper licensing (no current kennel or breeding license and many adult dogs without current rabies vaccinations), it is my hope that Fauquier County Zoning will consider granting a kennel license for no more than 12 dogs that would allow Mrs. Barrett to provide a higher quality of daily care and a responsible/ higher quality breeding program.
So she will still be able to continue?

Look likes she is trying to get a kennel license through the "Board of Zoning" which will have a site inspection on Feb. 7th.

I don't normally wish ill will on people, but if everything is true, I hope she fails.

Wow. I must say that investigator was awfully generous and lenient with her. Those photos are painful to view and this story is infuriating.

This drives me nuts and it happens all over (as well as on DT!) all the time. People come on here and spout all the stuff about what makes a reputable breeder and then don't do it themselves.

There will always be hypocrites.

I feel so bad for the dogs in this situation though.

RFR, I commented in the other thread about how lenient the investigator was with this woman. Is that standard protocol? Do they really try to encourage a person like this to relinquish custody of the dogs instead of taking them from her?

I don't know much about this, but it seems as though the evidence is stacked against her and that would be enough to get those dogs out of there.

And I'm glad someone brought up the care of her kids. I doubt it was coincidence that her mom flew in from Russia shortly after the first inspection.

It is my experience that yes, a whole ton of negotiation, leniency, chances to "improve," and so forth, go on, often for months or years, with authorities, prior to any real action being taken.

I've even known vets who won't back up humane officers who do try to make more significant changes.

What is it they say about drunk drivers? Something like for each arrest, they've driven under the influence at least 300 times without getting caught or charged.

Yup.

Can you imagine if all the "real" stories behind slick websites and authoritarian posts, behind the glitz and blitz, were to come out for the general public?

This is so true. Just recently in Cheyenne, the animal shelter confiscated 28 shihtzus that were in deplorable shape.

And when everything shook out, she got one ONE count of animal cruelty. Shelter director said that they wanted sign off on the dogs and she did, but only one count. And she is forbidden to have more than one dog. This is such a slap in the face. She will be breeding and selling as soon as she can get another dog.

It just makes me sick!

It's sad to say, but I imagine most, if not all, of those dogs will not survive this ordeal and will never know what it's like to live as dogs should. This is heartbreaking.

You know, based on this link (and if you read through it), the only change that can be made is when regular citizens get involved. Puppy Mills: Frequently Asked Questions : The Humane Society of the United States

From a previous post, I see that she is applying for a kennel license. If she gets it, she can't have more than 50 dogs (yes, 50) on the premises and her breeding dogs need to be a certain age to breed, the minimum of 18 months. Also, if she gets the breeding license, an official inpection is only needed twice a year. Unfortunately, the laws are not in favor of these poor dogs.

Also, if you go to the link, CANIS MAXIMUS - Dobermans puppies, European Dobermans, and zoom in on any of the animals, you shall see the eyes are not bright. On some, there is gunk around the eyes and all the coats are dull. Alot seem to have sores here and there, really pisses me off. I'm with "Sinister", I wish somehow I could just swoop in and rescue these precious little angels!

Ty, I saw this earlier today but was so busy with work. I hope to talk to my boss about this tommorrow as I would very much like to attend this meeting and do the walk through also. This woman with her three kids is obviously overwhelmed. I hope, somehow, that I can help, not just for the dogs, but for her family. Yes, I'm a sucker at times. and, I have to be VERY honest (and before I was educated about dobermans and byb's, reputable breeders, etc.) She is the person that I got my beloved Gracie from in August 2008. when I saw the one photo of that poor dobie's eye's peeking into the camera of hope to be rescued, I was up until 5:00am that morning, thinking, what can I do? With 2 1/2 hours sleep yesterday, I thought, ok, that could have been Gracie sitting there. I HAVE to do something!

There are fates worse than death, hackneyed phrase that is--it's still true.

There're a couple of us who have been trying to get a B/R C/D boy off his short chain for over three years now. He's their "stud dog" and his water is a foul little creek that his craptastic dog house sits at the edge of, but by golly he has food and shelter.

Well, you financed this very type of behavior, with your purchase money, so I, like the other poster, really don't get your point, there.

This is precisely why we want purchasers to REALLY know what they're supporting with their money. Not to tell themselves some pretty little story about how noble it is they got the pup they wanted, and damn the consequences to any other dog, or humans who end up going around trying to do damage control and clean up the messes.

If she relinquishes the dogs, they can be placed sooner. If she does not and they are taken the dogs must stay in the shelter/facility until the court case is done. About 2 years ago the authorities got a lady near me in Bakersfield to reliniquish approx 200 dogs mostly Chis, some other breeds. She kept about 35 I think. My agility trainer helped with the transport/housing and fostering and explained why they prefer to get the person to relinquish vs go through a court battle.

No, the hearing that is scheduled is to give her a 12 dog kennel license, instead of the 48 she has now. How can anyone even consider giving this woman a kennel license? She should be charged under the Virginia Animal Abuse laws.
