We are big advocates of buying from responsible breeders on this forum, rescues are great - if they are a true rescue from a shelter or good breed rescue group. In a lot of cases, people are looking in all the wrong places to find a puppy. Let us know a little about yourself and what you are looking for .... and where you are located.

And that right there is the crux of it. People get snowed by really nice websites all the time. They really don't have a clue what to really look for.[/QUOTE]

So can you recommend any breeders?

In your original post, you were given the suggestion of starting on the DPCA list. Have you found anyone there who interests you? Have you contacted the breeder of Meadowcat's male, Glengate?

Oh, there's nothing going on here to contact me about. I'm down to an 8 year old spayed female and a 12 year old neutered male, and on the look out for a puppy myself! And believe it or not, going through the same thing the newbies do. Breeders not even answering my emails ...

Well Meadowcats male is just HANDSOME!!
And yes it’s frustrating trying to find a breeder! I found someone on the DPCA list and went to their website. The website had not been updated since 2012. So I sent an email and asked if they were still breeding. And I kid you not, this is the EXACT response I got “occasionally” 😣😠😡. And. ??? So do I email back? Or since it seems like they don’t want to elaborate, do I just cross them off the list??

Thanks, Richter is handsome and Nicole takes beautiful shots of him. I've produced some very lovely, and long-lived Dobermans.

I think that websites are kind of out of style, aren't they? I think that people just kind of count on instagram and facebook and other social platforms now. I mean, I do keep my website sort of up to date but I'm about to lose it - apparently another company bought the free web hosting service I'm using and they are going to discontinue free websites.

Anyway, if all you asked in your email is if they are still breeding, I think you got an answer in kind. I've heard of a number of breeders who are going to the "tit for tat" root. You ask one question, they give one answer. If you didn't put much into your email enquiry, they won't put much into an answer. If they see some effort in the enquiry, they may put more effort into a response.

I've been hearing that breeders are inundated with emails and phone calls from people looking for puppies right now. One DPCA listed breeder said she had 20 emails in one day! So yeah, so glad I'm not listed on the DPCA breeders list right now. Like Mary, I have not had a litter in over 8 years. Contemplating a breeding the end of this year..... not any kind of done deal yet. I am not looking forward to it - so much freaking work, and I'm a lot older than I was the last time.
