Red face new to breeding

Hey there, My female dobie is going to be having pups! We're new to the whole breeding process but look forward to the lil ones
How many pups does a first litter usually produce?.. How much do they usually sell for? How long does AKC take to send papers out for the pups?
Just a few questions and if anyone is searching for a new pup, ours should be ready for Christmas time! Our male is a black/tan and our female is a blue/tan. If anyone is interested were in Florida so let us know something!! Thanks yall

Please read: Doberman Forum : Doberman Breed Dog Forums - Announcements in Forum : Site News

See specifically:

9) You will not post any messages that pertain to advertising/selling dogs or puppies (or any other live animal), or advertising/seeking any breeding services such as a stud dog or breeding your bitch. DT does not act as a medium to facilitate breedings, and all such type of threads will be deleted.

ETA: Also, and I apologize in advance if this sounds harsh, but please read up on what it takes to be a reputable breeder. In my opinion, you should know the answers to the questions you are asking Before you decide to breed your dogs.

How far along is she? You should get her to a vet to do an ultrasound.

You will need a whelping box with safety rails to make sure she doesn't accidentally smother the pups.

How many pups does a first litter usually produce?
It depends. Dobe litters can range from 1 to over 10, though about 6-8 is common iirc. You should really have looked this up BEFORE breeding.

How much do they usually sell for?
Less than they cost to produce if you do it to benefit the breed.

Remember that once these pups are born, YOU are responsible for them for the rest of their lives. Carefully screen your puppy buyers and make sure that if they for any reason ever can't keep the dog that you are able to take it back. Also, get multiple forms of contact information - it's easier to lose touch than you might think.

Please consider spaying your girl after this. This is not the way to begin breeding dobermans. Please check out the threads here on reputable breeding and what all goes into it.

Forgive me if I sound harsh - there are far too many unwanted dobes out there, many of them product of breedings like yours.

I'm sorry I have to say this, I sure hope you did all the necessary Health testing on your female and her mate. I hope that you know all about the dam and sires pedigrees, and know the causes of deaths of their relatives. 7 weeks ago I lost my 4 yr 9 mo old boy to DCM, he came from a greeder who did no health testing on any of the dogs he bred. He was in it for the money. This breed is full of serious health issues, no one should be breeding if they aren't doing health testing and know their lines inside and out...PERIOD. My pocketbook is $6000 lighter after my babies 20 month battle with that horrific disease.

Can you please list the health testing done on the parents of this litter?

Can you please list the titles that the parents have achieved?

Can you please list your breeding goals with this litter?

Can you please list the reason that your own male was the perfect match for your own female?

I am sorry, but this breed is sorely in need of very good breeders, not just people with a boy and a girl and no plans.

Too many Dobermans have been dying young from various genetic diseases and it starts to wear on our community. We start to lose patience with people who clearly haven't done any research in to anything before they are just "expecting puppies".

ETA: Oh... some questions are answered by looking at your profile. No titles, just pets which is the best title ever.

Um... not for breeding.

I'm sorry mods... I am starting to lose my mind on this crap.

ok first off i was only asking, not advertising. Yea, sounded kind of harsh, we love our dogs and know alot about the breed, just new to puppies and wanted to make sure all the research i did was correct. i did my home work and wanted to make sure other doberman breeders were on the same page as us. We're very close with our vet and they're helping us with the process. If you can't say something nice, dont say anything at all.

We've worked very close with our vets and have had tons of blood work done on both of them and all results have been negative before we ever decided to breed them.. We're still close with both our dogs breeders too. Both are registered and well taken care of

Forgive me, but you DIDN'T do your homework and you DON'T know ENOUGH about the breed if you think breeding two pet dogs is a good idea and you don't even know normal litter sizes or costs.

A vet check is NOT the sort of health testing that needs to be done before breeding dobermans. You need to check for genetic and inheritable issues that could be passed along to the puppies. Recent holter monitor to check for DCM (there's a genetic test for one of the DCM markers available now too), CERF scores for eyes and OFA or PennHip results for hips, etc., etc. Your vet is not likely to be a reputable doberman breeder. That's not a slam against him, vets have to know lots of breeds and general vet knowledge and specific breeding requirements don't always overlap. But it does mean you have to go far beyond him for your resources about breeding practices.

If you can't do something nice for the breed, don't do anything at all.

We are VERY passionate about our dogs and the breed as a whole here. We want whats best for the breed first and foremost and that means that if somebody is not breeding correctly (tests, titles, etc) we don't want them breeding at all. If you had done your homework and your research you would know this and you would have a mentor who has been in the breed for a while, not just a vet. I own a wonderful doberman and I will never consider getting into breeding, however I already know the answers to your questions. Please don't come on here and get all defensive when we ask the same questions of you that we ask of ANY breeder.

Also, this definitely is advertising and nobody is going to read it as anything differently.

It doesn't say pet.. it says family... which is the best title. They're not show dogs, they're loving companions and the center of our household. I'll say it again. We've worked close with our vet, the breeders they came from, and have done research.. I was only asking a few simple questions..

How is the above statement not an advertisement? I think anyone who reads that statement will take it as such. So please refer to my previous post regarding reading the forum etiquette, #9 specifically.

Have you considered impregnating yourself and selling your children? If you get pregnant in April 2012 you could have a kid ready to go at Christmas time next year. If you go with invitro you might even be able to have a litter yourself. Talk about some sweet moolah in the name of bringing life and love into the world!

On a serious note, I'm really sorry for your bitch that you've decided to use her as an ATM.

well you were right about the link you attached... It wasn't meant to sound like advertising and apologize for the way it may sound. we are VERY passionate about our dogs as well and want what is best for them and the pups. Don't think they should have to win the Nobel Peace prize to be bred either. I read a lot of of threads on this site for advice and just communicating with people who share the same love for their dobies. The response on this post was not what I expected. Instead of belittling and saying harsh things and trying to make me look like a [email protected]$$ why not try to give a few words of advise and encouragement to someone who wants the best for their animals. The negative criticism has been less than helpful.
