Doberman Service Dog

My name is Rick, I'm disabled and looking for a very special dog to replace a very special dog, my service dog that passed away from cancer. He passed away in June of 2010 and shortly thereafter I made arrangements to get a puppy to start training as my new service dog from a breeder who was expecting a new litter in October.

The breeder chose what they thought was the smartest and best puppy from the litter to begin service dog training. Because of the very special technique my service dog is trained to perform he'll remains in service dog training for at least two years. Because of my disability I have a difficult time breathing and my service dog is trained to recognize not only if I'm having difficulty breathing but also if I stop breathing altogether and to respond by applying the technique he's been trained to do to make sure I'm breathing okay.

Unfortunately, after nine months of training the dog that was chosen is not going to make it and I'm now left with having to find a new dog to start training all over with. The perfect dog would weigh between 85 and 100 pounds. He has to be able to focus and respond in an instant when needed. He can't be distracted and has to be able to problem solve when something comes up that might keep him from getting from where he is to where he needs to be. He'll spend two years being professionally trained and when finished he'll spend the rest of his life as a service dog, bonded to the person he is responsible for. He'll be able to go to stores and restaurants, doctors offices and hospitals but most importantly he will save the life of his person on many occasions. My last service dog saved my life many times, I can't tell you how hard it was when he was diagnosed with cancer and I had to tell him I couldn't save his.

If you have or know of a dog that would be perfect for this job as my service dog please e-mail me and let me know.

Thank's
Rick

Hi,

I am also looking for a Doberman as my service dog. I am completely deaf in my left ear and now have lost a significant amount in my right ear due to Menieres Disease. This Disease also causes me to have serious dizzy spells. I need a smart and very strong dog. If you find out anything please let me know. Thank you and best luck finding a dog.

There are at least two DT members with Dobe service dogs, but dang me if I can remember who they are right now. . Stick around, read some threads, and I'm sure you'll come across a few of their posts.

Best of luck in finding your DoberHelper.

Might be an idea for you two looking for the right Dobe for training for assistance is to contact all the Doberman Breed clubs and put in your request to them, maybe one of their members may know of the right breeder, the right dog, and the right trainer if needed too.

Good luck to both of you!

Your best bet is to contact some of the service dog organizations for their input. I have a service dog (doberman) but he hasn't been trained to do what Rick and Miss. need a dog to do.

Darkevs, I've sent a similar note to all the breeders I could find in the area. I've heard back from a couple, one has a few puppies for sale right now but the other won't have any until next year. I'm going to try and go look at the puppies that are available from the one breeder but I'm hoping to find more options.

RedFawnRising has a working service dog who is a Doberman, she would be extremely helpful but she is going through a bit of a crisis. you could private message her, i'm sure she would be happy to help regardless.

something clever goes here.

Re:Doberman Service Dog

I thinks this dog helps us in many cases. The works of the Doberman breed is great. It helps his master in different ways.As most faithful animal in our society it also work some special works like detecting the bombs and the thieves etc.So we have to take care of them properly so that they will be active all the time.

I know someone who got their doberman service dog through www.pilotsdogs.org. You might check them out. I know they train dogs for the blind and deaf, but they may be able to point you in the direction of where you might be able to go to find what you need.
