Hi all. I euthanized my soulmate 2 days ago at 13 yrs. I promised to never own a dog, but I am hell desperate right now. My breeder in MN where I live (a remarkable women) passed away a decade ago, so I do not know where to go, how to find. I came across the dpca website, but I need to find the Argentinian bloodlines and its not possible to know which breeders have those? (and if there is a black male puppy or younger dog somewhere in US). I am counting on this forum might have info.

If you go to Dobequest you can look at pedigrees. There are quite a few American bred dobes with SA lines. My condolences on the loss of your best friend.

Just a word of advice....take time to find your new puppy. We've all lost our friends and know the heartache and desperation of needing to fill the void. That hole in your heart is unbearable.

A lot of breeders use South American lines. I'm not sure if anyone is breeding 100% Argentinian lines in the US, but there are still litters with some heavy South American influence.

VZ is right, Dobequest is a good place to start. The primary names you'd look for are any dog with the "De Black Shadow" kennel name, Nello (usually Nello's Lex Luthor), Akido San, De Lex Luthor (the kennel name, not the dog, to make things confusing) are the primary ones coming up in mind. There's an up and coming young dog who's been bred to at least twice before the age of 2 and before health testing was completed who is tightly linebred on Nello's Lex Luthor through Inaqui de Black Shadow and Trotyl de Black Shadow. (Trotyl is a son of Inaqui who is a son of Lex).

Take your time to find the right breeder whom you mesh with well, who takes the time to answer questions, who doesn't shy away from providing honest and accurate information about health, longevity and cause of death.

I am so sorry for your loss and I know it's not comforting right now but 13 years is a beautiful amount of time with a doberman.

Thanks, I am going to try to understand dobequest. I have autism spectrum, it takes me longer to understand things. My dobe was essential to my life, my fears, my functioning. I was saying him goodbye for last 6 months. I told him many thousand times, that when angel of death comes, he must take me along with the ride, I give the permission in advance, we must stay together for ever. But in the end my promise was not fulfilled. This life is absolutely unfair. He was my better half, he stayed stoic till the very end.

To use dobequest, first go to the main page
DobeQuest

then click on "visitor" which should bring you here
Dobequest:Dog Search Page

the simplest way is to look for individual dogs. In this case make sure "dobermans by registered name" is selected.

In the second box you will see a field to type in "any part of registered name". If you write in the kennel name such as "Velo" all dogs with the name "Velo" will show up.
the page should look like this
Dobequest:Dog Search Page

Then if you click on any dog, it will bring you to the dog's individual page. I chose a dog that had both "Phillmar" and "Velo" in the name, since both kennels were mentioned by greenkouki
Dobequest:Dog Profile Page

on the individual page, you can click on "pedigree" and a new window will pop up such as this
Dobequest:Dog Pedigree Page

You can thus see the pedigree here. This dog is a grandson of Nello's Lex Luthor, on his paternal side, and a great grandson of Trotyl de Black Shadow, on his maternal side. Those are two of the dogs I mentioned as being common Argentinian dogs in the pedigrees, so this dog has visible South American lines.

Hope this helps a little in learning to navigate dobequest.

Since you're in Minnesota, I suggest you get in touch with June Taylor - she's a member of the Greater Twin Cities Doberman Pinscher Club. I am sure she doesn't have a puppy available, but her bitch is imported directly from the Black Shadow kennels in Argentina. She might be a good resource for you. You can find her at Taylor Made Dobermans: https://www.facebook.com/Taylor-Made-Dobermans-102742178045402/.

I'm not sure importing a dog directly is possible right now, but I know she has had multiple Dobermans imported directly from there and she follows those lines really closely, so she may know who else is breeding them here.
