Ah I see. I don't think there's a standard protocol. Be very careful there are a lot of scammers!

I forgot to mention, it may help to search here on DT for specific breeders. I would encourage you to deal directly with the breeder vs. dealing with a puppy broker.

Will depend on payment method. Your best route (but more expensive) will be through bank transfers or cheque.

I would advise finding a smaller breeder you can build a relationship with and trust, unless you plan on going there to meet them and their dogs in person or pick up the puppy.

I think in most cases you will have to pay for the puppy in full before it is shipped if you are not picking it up in person. You should insure you are dealing with someone you trust. I do not know of any breeder that will put a puppy on an airplane without having all of the money. Why would they? The buyer would have the puppy and all the breeder could do is hold the papers. It would be quite costly for them and difficult to get the puppy back or the rest of their money.

Hey!

I imported a cropped and docked doberman to the U.K. from Brutal Dragons in Croatia

Echo everything said -

don’t be tempted to use a broker.....they are expensive and don’t care about the health of the puppies, and also lie about their pedigrees/give fake ones.

Find a breeder you like and build a relationship

Payment wise, we paid a deposit by bank transfer then half the balance on the week of shipping, we paid the transport company direct (he arrived by ca, ferry crossing, not plane), and we video called Nina at Brutal when he had arrived and then transferred her the balance.
I think this is a risk on both sides, but a fair way to do it!

I don’t have experience with Russian imports sorry

Any other questions give me a shout.
