I'm going to be a grandma

Hi all,

I've waited to announce anything so that Amaya could have her time in the light. It seems we are going through everything together starting with the BH and now breeding.

Kya was bred to Ben, Caleb's on Eagles Wings. Of course she loves to give her mom a heart attack so we bred her on DAY 21!!!! The reason for choosing Ben is because lookswise he's a good match. He has a BEAUtiful head, he has nice bone, so we will hopefully keep Kya's bone, he's a bit short on angulation but Kya's a bit over angulated so that's good. It's also a nice outcross. Plus he also trains in agility and has his WAC, as well as longevity in his lines. Health testing on both parents was Immaculate, couldn't be happier there. Puppies are clear on most genetic issues through parentage. If all goes well we will have some reds and some black puppies, Zero chance for any dilutes or the dilute gene.

Today was the ultrasound which gave us great news and not-so-great news. Kya IS PREGGERS! She saw 4 viable puppies! Yay!!! The not-so-great news is she saw 3-4 being reabsorbed. This is very unusual for such a young bitch so we will be doing another US next week to see how the puppies are reabsorbed and if we still have 4 healthy viable puppies. If you pray, please pray for Kya's pups and if not, please keep them in your thoughts.

That's great Karen! Nice news in a generally dismal time.

Sooo... I'll be right here, thinking good thoughts for the "4" and awaiting updates.

Best to you, your full grown pups and your "soon to be" pups...

So happy for you, Gretchen. Did you know our new boy, Bodhi was sired by Ben?

I'll see if I can get an update. Suddenly he shot up and is the same hgt as his two Aunties (Jada and Kiri) and he seems all leg and a bit awkward looking. Still has a great head.
Probably a good thing there are no shows here the first of May. He is still pulling things together.

I will be very curious to see what you have.
Is this an outcross or linebreeding with Kya?

It was an outcross. How much I'm not sure but I didn't see any repeated dogs in the dobequest pedigrees. It will be interesting to see what Embark says.

My daughter came by to pick up Bodhi and I told her I needed a 7 month pic of him. She said, Not now I don't have time. But, I insisted and said it will only take a minute. So on the way to her car, she stopped and free stacked him and I got one pic. and then she was off. Telling you this cause I think we could have done better, but maybe later.

CR ~ Kya is two.

Gretchen had asked if I had a recent pic of our Bodhi who is out of the sire she just used with Kya.

He's a nice young male. You can tell it was quick but a good picture of his conformation can still be seen. Who's the dam? Was it London? Are her puppies 7mo already?

She's a bit young yes but she was 2 and had all of the health testing done and then some. The stud owner viewed it before breeding, and it's all posted on OFA. This was done for 2 reasons. 1)She's had a bit of feminine issues. This could be her first and last litter. Time will tell. Hopefully it's not, she's such a wonderful bitch, but both the repro. vet and the regular vet have brought up spaying.

2) I wanted to get a breeding out of the way before we started going for the IGP 1 which we plan to do this fall. So IF there's a 2nd breeding it won't be until she's retired so maybe when she's 5 or 6 years old? Going forward this is how I will likely breed all of my bitches. Reason being; for those of us who train and compete, it's hard to take 6mo. off. So then we end up waiting until the bitch is 5-6 years old. If that first breeding doesn't take, then we're trying again at 6 or 7 years old and hoping we get a breeding on the maiden bitch. Too many of my friends have ended up with their bitches not taking ever. All the hard work and great genes you put together and then you end up with no progeny to carry those genes on.

Gretchen, you are smart to do that. I only wish we had bred Kiri when she was younger. Just can't get the job done. This last time, ultrasound showed she had reabsorbed one embryo so she has to be fertile. I would like to hear your experiences with Kyo and why the vet brought up spay - if you have time. You can PM me or I can give you my edress.

Good luck to you! You just never know with ultrasound - I would not do another, but would just wait till the week before delivery to X-ray.

I've never seen it called that, but I applaud the word. Is that common usage and I'm just out of the loop?

Funny, yes I heard that from someone else and thought it very accurate and wondered if I had been out of the loop. So, I guess we are now in the loop? Or, our own loop?

Will we get updates like when you bred Mav? I really did like reading those.
