Looking for a puppy

We lost our boy and are ready to look for a puppy. Has anyone done business, know about - Unique Dobermans in Or or Paul Doberman Kennel in WV?

Are you specifically looking for Euro? What are you wanting to do with your puppy? We need these answered before we can help you find a breeder

What draws you to these breeders?

Here are my thoughts:

Unique Doberman reminds me of a used car salesman. "Unique Dobermans is a name recognized around the world as one of the most trusted and reputable Doberman Pinscher breeders in America." I compete in multiple dog sports and I've never once heard of this breeder. "Our large boned Doberman Pinscher puppies for sale are thoughtfully bred from Healthy and Long Lived Champion Imported Show and Working line European, Russian and German Dobermans, yes it's possible to have Beauty and Brawn in the same Doberman Puppy." They had one male die at 8.5 and another at 7.5 is that long lived to you? Also, I don't see any working lines whatsoever. I'd love to know what makes their puppies worth $3500??? Their website looks very much up-to-date but strangely their health testing doesn't. I don't see an echo since 2016 and holter since 2017. These need to be done every year and especially if a breeder plans to breed. They basically admit their business is breeding dogs. Not a fan. If you're doing it correctly you aren't making money. Although at $3500 a puppy and not a single title put on the parents by the owners I guess you might make a good chunk of money lol.

I wouldn't touch Paul Doberman's pedigrees! Doubling up on multiple dogs known for producing DCM and popular sires. And if he breeds to the males then he would be tripling and quadrupling up on those lines. Too much inbreeding on bad lines for my taste.

Bacchus and I competed in Agility/OB/Rally in 13 states (midwest/east coast) from 2008 to 2016 in AKC/UKC/Nadac and never heard of or saw Dobermans from Unique or Paul Doberman.

I had never heard of Paul Dobermans, but after looking at their website, it looks like another puppy flipper with Serbian connections. I am not impressed with their bloodlines and I do breed to top European sires and have bred Dobermans for nearly 50 years.

I knew about Unique Dobermans and as Gretchen says they are used car salesman. The breeding on their dogs is better than Paul, but the over-price their dogs and do nothing with their dogs except breed them. The do not exhibit in either the show ring or on the working field.

I would look elsewhere, but everybody has their own idea.

There's only one breeder I'd consider in WV, and she breeds extremely infrequently. I don't believe she has any plans to breed in the near future.

What are you looking for, specifically? Where are you located? Let's start there.

I live in Oregon, have lived in Portland now for the past 25 years and got my start in Dobermans in Washington state.

I've never heard of Unique either.

We have some dynamite breeders in Washington and Oregon as well as British Columbia. When I haven't even heard of a Northwest breeder I'm immediately suspicious.

Frankly most of the so called Euro breeders in the states are just breeding and selling "Euro" puppies because it's the latest thing.

Paul Dobermans is too far out of my area--never heard of them but that means not much.

But for a breeder in Oregon--I've at least heard of most of them and I've been in Dobes since 1959. Conformation, Obedience, Rally, Tracking and Agility.

You've got to do better than Paul or Unique--if you are willing to consider puppies from breeders on opposite sides of the Country.

Listen. As a previous buyer of 'Unique' doberman, steer very clear of this 'breeder'. They do NOT actively show in confirmation or ANY discipline but simply import their titled stock from European countries. They are shady answering any direct questions concerning health testing, and failed to provide actual documentation concerning ANY health testing! My pups sire DIED of DCM when my pup was 2 y/o and they NEVER called that litters buyers with that info. If they had, perhaps I could have extended the life of my dog with early DCM treatment. Because she had it. Their website is pretty, has tons of info, but that's it. Talk and words are cheap. They are simply lining their pockets. Do you not see the horse breeding?? And now the added poodle breeding?? Buyer beware. And whichever breeder you do choose? If they are reputable, they WILL encourage questions about all medical concerns related to breeding stock, AND will be able to provide actual written documentation from a VET related to ANY 'said' health testing done.

We are currently looking for a European Doberman puppy. There are so many factors to consider when researching unfamiliar breeders. Does anyone have any experience with Premier Dobermans, in Talmadge Ohio. From my E mail conversations and her website Samantha seems pretty legit in regards to health testing and respect for the magnificent Dobie breed

JR--it would probably be a good idea to start your own thread with your question. More visibility usually leads to more responses.

Edited to add: I just glanced at Premier's website--SO MANY males and females. And 5 litters expected (about 1 a week) between the end of May and early July!!!

ABSOLUTELY no way!!! There is no way they can properly care for and socialize so many puppies, not to mention that they would have to be being raised in outside kennels or an outbuilding of some sort--you couldn't possibly keep that many puppies in your home.

I just glanced at a review page--30 reviews, all 5 star, all posted within the last week?? How in the heck can that happen?

The price is about what you'd pay for a decent quality dobe, but these dogs don't look like quality dobes to me. You could do MUCH better.

This is a tutorial on starting a new thread. https://www.dobermantalk.com/new-mem...rt-thread.html

The main problem with piggybacking onto an established thread is that a lot of people will respond to the OP, and not you.

No problem .....everyone’s toes are pretty tough her.......Dobers have big feet and step on our toes all the time .....LOL
Seriously we just gotta show you the way to get great responses to your questions.
Check out the thread thats running on “first time breeder” by Artemis .
She has devised a journal from the very beginning.
This will allow you to see what breeders deal with behind the scenes.
Great info along with the suggested threads.
And welcome to our world.
