Breeder List Advice

Hello! My wife and I are ready for a Doberman pup. I have done quite a bit of research and have put together the list below of breeders within our traveling distance, that do the testing we want, and arent bred with an emphasis of being in a working home. If anyone has any words of affirmation or caution with anyone in the list that would be a great help!

-Arista- Scott LaCour
-Electra- Judith Bingham
-Ohana- Frank Natale
-Morgana- Penelope Brooks
-Black Bart- Sandra Boyas
-Soquel- Linda Siegel
-Tevro- Trevor Miller
-Winmar- Lisa Burroff
-Pennylane- Holly Schorr and Steve Schorr
-Sauniv- Saundra Rovira
-Prima- Shayna Sitton
-Anozira- Mary-Helene Brown

Thanks in advance!

A word of caution here and I'm supposed to be leaving right now for work but if yoou are planning of "working" (what kind?) I would not recommend Electra. While Judy Bingham, has, over time, bred some wonderful (and well known) dogs she is very much a conformation breeder and if this is your first Doberman, she's not always as kind to novices who are not planning for conformation as she might be.

For those I think are better than average breeders:
Arista
Soquel
Winmar
Pennyhlane
Anozira

Those that I left out I either don't know much (or anything) about so good luck--I'm sure that other people have opinions too.

Just a suggestion--doesn't look like you were considering breeders north of SoCal but Washingon state, Oregon and still in California but barely Irongate-Eve Auch--you should take a look at some of those breeders (Washington and Oregon) also in California, Manorie Dobes-Marg Brooks in Santa Rosa.

It took me a couple of reads, but I think they are saying that they are specifically NOT a working home.

Oooops Rosemary,

I just went back and reread it and I think you're right.

So my answer still doesn't change much--I would never send a newcomer to Dobes (no matter what they wanted to do--unless it was to buy a pick puppy and sign a contract that it would be shown by a top notch handler to a Grand Championship and be shown extensively as a Special. I still feel that Judy is not very nice to beginners and tends to make the beginners feel bad about themselves and their dog.

I think everyone I named is a show breeders and that means that with rare exceptions the litter will have (maybe) a couple of show prospects and several nice pets and all of the litter would have the prospect of being fun to train in things like obedience, rally and agility as well as being good company on the couch and around the house or out hiking.

Thanks for catching that...

My personal opinion of your list is below:

-Arista- Scott LaCour
-Electra- Judith Bingham
-Soquel- Linda Siegel
-Tevro- Trevor Miller
-Winmar- Lisa Burroff
-Pennylane- Holly Schorr and Steve Schorr

There are some breeders that I took off the list because I didn't know who they were, there were others I took off due to other reasons. If you would like to know those reasons you can PM me and I will give you my phone number and we can talk about it. With that said, I have NEVER seen the health testing of those I did recommend so I would encourage you to double check (not saying they don't do it but I've just never asked to see it or looked on dobequest for it).

Also, my advice to you would be to ask to see the pedigrees of the breeding pair and then research how the dogs died. If you can't find it online through dobequest then ask the breeder.

Good luck. Thanks for doing your research.

Any Puppies Available or Soon to be Available?

Hi Everyone! I am new here and have found this forum to be extremely helpful.

I have spent the majority of the last 2 days trying to find a reputable breeder with puppies available and/or with puppies soon to be available.

I live in Southern California and am willing to travel to surrounding states.

I know a lot is uncertain right now with the virus, but I wanted to reach out and see if anyone knows of any pups that are available?

Thanks!

Go to http://dpca.org or https://uniteddobermanclub.com/udc-breeder-directory/ and look under Breeders Directory or Breeder Referral.

However, you must remember that this is not like going to WalMart or Cabela's and picking one off the shelf. If you want a quality Doberman puppy, you will likely need to travel and/or wait until a the right litter is available.

Remember, Quality is worth waiting for instead of Instant Gratification.
