This is not a breeder I would buy from. Their bitches are "pet" quality with poor conformation and the "titles" they have earned could be done in one day (temperament tests). The sire they're using for the upcoming litter is owned by the breeder which is another red flag. While he was purchased from a somewhat reputable breeder he does not really measure up either... They are basically breeding pet quality dogs with very low level titles - CGC and RN with no conformation titles (UKC really does not count for more than just fun). It does look like they do some health testing and at least crop ears. The price is a bit high for what they have - puppies from both AKC champion parents are going for about $3000. I've seen worse for sure, but there is way better out there also.

Thanks for the info. I also thought the pics of their dogs are a bit odd — the males have very thin face structures and just don’t look like Dobes I’ve seen from other breeders.

They don't have conformation titles, like American Kennel Club or Canadian Kennel Club Champion or Grand Champion. United Kennel Club titles are... well let's just say not as hard to get as an AKC or CKC championship. They are, however, better than most of the "International Championship" titles that a lot of less than scrupulous breeders put on their dogs.

Conformation refers to the build of the dog's body. The AKC has a standard for every breed of dog established by each breed club (and other registries in different countries/areas have their own standards--which can differ, but usually only slightly) Anyway, you can find the AKC standard here:

DPCA | The Doberman | Breed Standard

The breed standard of every breed establishes how that breed should be built and how they should look. The build of a dog is important in terms of their physical health (the dog may have weak hips, bad back or shoulders structure or poor leg structure, for example). The standards are different from breed to breed because the structure is what determines how well a dog can do the work they were bred to do.

The classic dog show most people think of (Westminster for example) judges the dogs according to how well they match their breed standard. A dog has to win at a certain number of shows in order to earn a championship. The reason a conformation title is considered important is that, again, it shows that the dog is properly built according to his breed. And an outside impartial eye (the judge) is important in helping to evaluate the dog--people aren't necessarily unbiased when it comes to evaluating their own breeding stock.

Thanks for the info. Do you have any recommendations for reputable breeders in the NY area that may not have a significant waitlist for a pup?

Have you looked at the DPCA breeders list? You have some very decent breeders up your way - most good breeders don't breed a lot as none of us make a living off of breeding dogs and have real jobs (not to mention families) to support our hobby. Raindance, Kalora are two that come to mind.
