Looking for NC/VA/MD/EASTERN SHORE Breeder

I originally posted this on another forum, and later realized it was a much less active forum, so I decided to join this on and reposted it over here.

As the title states, I'm trying to locate a reputable breeder in either NC, VA, MD, or on the Eastern Shore. I live in NE North Carolina and am willing to travel a reasonable distance, but do not want to ship a puppy.

I've been having trouble finding someone reputable with quality dogs that I feel trustworthy with. Either I find people I feel comfortable with, only to do more research and find out they are a BYB or have less than par health issues in their genetics. Other issues have been sellers either sending undesirable pedigrees or not wanting to send them electronically, which is an immediate turn off.

I have my reasons and dont feel a need to explain, but I am not interested in a rescue animal. I also dont want an older dog either. I'd like to find a doberman puppy from a reputable breeder who does not want an absurd amount of money (for example one breeder told me $4000). I'm sure their dogs are very nice and worth it, but I cant justify 4 grand. I wouldn't even spend 4 grand on a horse (and yes I know they are worth more than that sometimes).

The younger the better, ideally anything below 14 weeks would be fine with me. I am ok with having to wait a few weeks or couple months to get the dog, but I also am not looking to sit on a waiting list for a year or 2 either.

Any suggestions? Can anyone point me in a good direction? My number 1 reason for wanting a doberman is for a pet/companion with a secondary job of doing some mild farm work while outside with me. I plan on doing some professional training with the dog as well. Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing back.

Do you have a fenced yard? I am not a breeder but I have some leads for you so I'm sending you a private message.

I would recommend contacting the DPCA chapter clubs in those areas - go to dpca.org and click on chapter clubs for their contact information. The local clubs are a great resource for who is breeding and who is ethical in their areas.

Another great resource is the Facebook Group "Doberman Pinscher Breeder listings" - you can request to join here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/323279287742250/. There are listings for litters, and you can also post an inquiry there. Listings need to adhere to the DPCA code of ethics. Just watch out for people sending private messages there as sometimes people are admitted to the group and the admins don't always catch that they are BYBs and they just lurk.

Sounds great! Thanks for the leads. I'll definitely check them out.

I would recommend Sharjet in NJ. She's a bit farther. Also, she likely can't send you the pedigrees, or much else via email, but you should be able to search pedigrees via the dobequest database. I can tell you that I know her pedigrees well and there's a nice amount of longevity there.

One thing about your post that I'm hearing and maybe you aren't trying to come off like this is, "I want this, I want that but I don't want to pay this". Sorry but you CAN NOT put a price on proper lines, good conformation, health, longevity, care, temperament and a lifelong mentor. Sharjet doesn't charge anything close to $4,000 but if she would have I wouldn't have hesitated to pay it. Now that my puppy is 14mo. and has the best temperament of any dobe I've owned, I'd likely pay more.

Yeah... I'm with G-R^^^ My 4 1/2 yo was $2500 from a well known reputable breeder in my neck of the woods. He came cropped and docked with all the necessary health care and inoculations for his age (10 weeks). He was also very secure and socialized (for his young age) via his breeder.

If today he was to cost me $4K, I would not hesitate to pay the freight. In the greater scheme of things, the upfront price for a great pup is chump change compared to what your total expenses may be over the course of a Dobe's life.
