Stud ????

I am thinking about putting my 195 lbs male up for stud but have no idea what all that would entail. Is there anyone who can help me?

Welcome to dt. My advice is to leave breeding up to those who have years of experience. Can you share a photo of your dog?

Uh... There is no such thing as a 195lb. pure bred Doberman . We had a huge male from a reputable breeder of AKC show lines and he was over sized at about 98lb.

So... What greenkouki said^^^

Please study the Doberman breed standards:

https://images.akc.org/pdf/breeds/st...anPinscher.pdf

My current youngest is right there and best at about 85-87lb.

Best to you.

Please do not breed your dog.

Purebred, yes. Well bred or fit, no. I have seen Dobes from the local "Superior Sized" Doberman puppy mill toppling the scales at 175...they were the size of Great Danes.

Even a grossly oversized adult male Doberman should not come close to weighing 195 pounds--or 175 pounds unless they are also incredibly obese.

The AKC standard calls for males to be 26 to 28 inches at the shoulder (27-1/2 " being the most desireable)--there isn't a disqualification for oversized dogs as long as they are well balanced. There is no weight listed for Dobes in the AKC standard.

Danes are sort of the same story--their standard says males over 30 inches preferable over 32 inches--it also doesn't specify weight. 175 pounds would be heavy even for an adult male Great Dane.

I've had several 28-1/2" males--who were very correct and who finshed AKC championships easily. One of them weighed 90 pounds in show weight and te most recent one weighed 90 pounds when we were showing him as a puppy and young male--when he finished and was doing performance competition I kept him at 85 pounds and is still at 85 pounds.

But I've also had champion males who were not quite 27 inches and weighed 75 pounds.

Even very correct finished champion Dobermans with desirable pedigrees are often never bred so what does your 195 pound male offer that would make him a dog that should be bred? I'd say neuter him, have fun with him, love him and don't even breed him.

I would have to imagine that he meant to put 95 pounds. Or is trying to pull our legs...

Of course that often happens when a neophyte poster gets a less than positive response.

AJ- The aforementioned big redboy stud might actually weigh in at 195 lb., judging from this pic?

Well I suppose if the papers are hung it would legally be a purebred but...
