Based on their website, they are a back yard breeder, breeding "pets" from untitled parents with limited health testing. A breeder should do more to prove their dogs to be worthy of being bred other than putting male and female anatomy together to make puppies. This is likely just a breeder that jumped on the "Euro" bandwagon in order to make money. 5 litters on the ground listed in the last 6 months. You can do much much better.

I've moved your post to a new thread.

I think this thread is about them: https://www.dobermantalk.com/breedin...man-ranch.html

I think it's really important to learn how to evaluate breeders yourself.

This is a good read: https://www.dobermantalk.com/breedin...e-breeder.html

So is this: https://dpca.org/BreedEd/buying-a-doberman-pinscher/

The west coast has a TON of lovely breeders. If you do a forum search, you'll see a bunch of threads with recommendations. The DPCA breeders listings is another place to search.

This thread has a ton of recommendations: https://www.dobermantalk.com/breedin...uthern-ca.html

I would not necessarily categorized them as a Back Yard Breeder. Still, this is not a breeder that I would purchase a pup from.

I see very little heath testing. The term "DCM clear" really makes me wary. Now if they had listed the dates and results of echocardiogram and 24 hour holter tests on the sire and dam I would be more convinced of their efforts.

And honestly, I think their dogs not handsome at all. Quite the opposite in fact.

They don't or won't (or can't) list the parents of the vast majority of their breeding dogs. And can't or list the AKC registration # for quite a few of the females, even though they have a space for it in the dog's profiles.

Whether just an omission or for lack of existence, I see no titling of any sort in anything.

In any case, the last link that MeadowCat posted, leads to a couple of lists of some of the really good breeders on the West Coast and in the Pacific NW. This where I would start if I lived in the West (which I do).

Testing results, testing results, testing results!!! If they can’t produce them for heart, thyroid, hips, etc. going back several generations, don’t waste your money. That’s a MINIMAL criteria!!!

A Recent question about this breeder was asked on yelp by a potential puppy buyer. This is the response.

Yes, we had a dog from this breeder with DCM. She came from Fendi and Bishop, she lived to be just over 5. She developed a cough, had fluid in the lungs and we lost her within two weeks. Was the best dog we ever had, still miss her.

I made the mistake of looking at their website.... four litters since 5-18-18, with another listed as "coming soon". The 5-18-18 litter doesn't say how many there were, but the 6-18-18 litter, the 7-14-18 litter, and the 7-16-18 litter each have 11 puppies listed as available. How in the *bleep* can someone properly socialize 33 puppies all born within the past 30 odd days? Do they follow the K'tal model, and farm out bitches on litter back contracts? Or just keep everyone in kennels?

Needless to say, my opinion of them isn't any higher than it was in the previously linked thread.

There was just a litter posting for Del Rey Dobermans, litter of 9 pups whelped in Northern California, looks like pretty good longevity in the pedigree. More info on their FB page: https://www.facebook.com/delrey.doberman

I, too, looked at their website years after my girl passed. Not familiar with sires, bitches and breeding lines, I do know what tests are done by reputable breeders. I was desperate to find a new (not replacement dog) but couldn't understand why they stated that their puppies are "home-raised and socialized" when it seems like all they do is crank out puppies.
Still looking for a GREAT breeder!

Stay away from this BYB WESTCOAST DOBERMAN RANCH. I flew there in August from Australia, paid $3000 for pup. Month later this “vaccinated pup” Failed FAVN blood test for rabies. Then owner refused another pup, or refund the money paid. Tony Alves just been ignoring my email and calls.

What a nightmare situation fighting this from Australia. Given no receipt for cheque’s he’s cashed. “He was emailing me invoice”. Like all his lies, it never Happened.

The puppy actually had rabies? Or it was given a vaccine so it tested positive for having the vaccine antibodies? What a terrible experience, sorry.

I don't think much of WestCoast Doberman Ranch as a breeder--not even a mediocre breeder but about the FAVN test--I work for a vet clinic which does a lot of testing for shipping of dogs (because we have a long time employee who has sufficient experience with export that we 'know' the ins and outs of testing.)

One of the things she's learned and taught us is that for any dog shipping to countries that require testing for rabies/active protection is that unless the most recent rabies vaccine was very recently done they will need to be revaccinated before or they won't 'pass' the test.

This is why rabies is not a one time only vaccine. There are vaccines that are rated for three years but like many other vaccines if the dog hasn't been exposed to rabies or recently revaccinated they won't show enough antibodies to pass the FAVN.

Just sayin' most people aren't aware of this.

I think I can possibly answer this since one of Mav's pups is going to Australia.

When a pup goes to Australia it has to be 10mo. old and test positive for the antibodies for Rabies, the test is a form of a titer. If it doesn't, I thought it just had to stay in quarantine for 6mo. which I wouldn't want for my puppy.
