Hello everyone! I'm looking for some guidance in finding my future dog. I have some rather specific needs so any recommendations would be very appreciated.
I am looking for a Service Dog prospect. As such, a dog from a breeder that does working titles and puts the emphasis on temperament and trainability is very important. I am also looking for a Euro line and a male because height/weight is a factor in my specific disability mitigating needs so the extra size is important.
Ideally I do not want a baby puppy like typical buyers. I'd like an older pup, 6 months
-1 year plus, that has already gone through the basics of house training, some polite leash walking, and vax. I was thinking maybe a show/competition dog that didn't quite have the conformation/drive and washed or a pup that needs to be re-homed? Or perhaps, are there breeders/trainer programs that sell older puppies with some basics done for an additional charge? The reason is I want to be able to focus on the bonding process and get right into training for Canine Good Citizen, the Public Access Test, and the 2 disability mitigating tasks. I would be finding and working with a trainer for this. I know this will be a 6 month minimum process and I don't want to extend the time by having a baby, as adorable as they are.
I don't mind traveling/transporting so location is not an issue. I have been saving up so I plan to pay close, if not more, to fully priced pups of $1500-$3000. If training has been done I know it could be significantly more which I am also prepared for. I'm not looking for a 'deal' buy getting an older puppy, just one that is old enough to begin his Service training and who the breeder thinks has the right personality and intellect to avoid a washout. I'm hoping to be in a position to buy sometime in the summer of 2019.
TL;DR : Looking for young male Service Dog prospect
