Looks like someone doing nothing other than breeding their two pets. Definitely not a reputable breeder, really a backyard breeder by all means. I could name a dozen things wrong.

You should be looking for a breeder that's titling their dogs in some or multiple venues, doing full health testing, and breeding out of passion not for some other motivation ($$$$). Your area is chock full of great breeders.

Based upon the complete lack of professionalism on her page I would run away.
Not to mention, someone who does proper health testing would never be able to sell puppies for $1k without taking a big loss.

If you are looking for a good breeder of European lines I would start here

Yea I figured they were pretty much backyard but thought I would ask. Pretty much aware of all the health testing questions, titles, etc. I actually have talked in email with three known breeders already and hoping to get a pup through one of them. I just thought I would get some opinions on these other people I see. Thank you guys.

Ugh, really someone who is doing it all wrong! They only talk about health testing of ancestors and obviously know nothing about DCM if they believe a dna test on an ancestor means that their dogs can't get DCM - they are seriously ignorant or trying to deliberately deceive people..... not sure which is worse!
No registered names or pedigrees listed, no titles, and no health testing ..... all of those are huge red flags!
And the whole thing about European Dobermans being better than the "spindly" American Dobermans is another big red flag.
Run, don't walk away from this greeder!!

Yes I have looked into them but since they are in California I didn't want to go with them. I am leaning towards the others that are within driving distance of me. Would like to meet breeder and dogs. Which is why I am waiting on Wingate or Deerun right now. Foxfire I am still waiting to see if she will reply to me. She has a litter due as well but I am pretty sure those are probably already spoken for.

Contact Eve (Irongate) directly. e-mail [email protected]

She has very specific way that she places her puppies and contacting her is the best way to find out if there are puppies available from the up coming litter, the price and how to get on Eve's list.

For one thing, she does not ship--puppies get picked up in person only.

'Protecting their bloodlines" Really? I'ts harder to find a pedigree without Fedor or Nike than it is to find them at least once, if not multiple times. Nike was bred literally hundreds of times. and Fedor probably isn't too far behind his sire! I question whether their male has registration papers, or if he does, if maybe he's on a limited registration and can't be used to register puppies?

Whatever the reason, I don't believe for a moment their stated reason, I'd call hooey on that one LOL!!

Yes, I found that part intriguing too.

"....All of our dogs go out on a spay neuter contract to protect these exquisite lines and many litters we do not even send out with Papers in order to protect and preserve this linage, we have been blessed to acquire with our two dogs. It is not about the money it is about preserving these lines and providing others with top of the line European linage dobermans that can be added to a family for protection, service dog and search and rescue. So note we place them in pet homes only, and papers do nothing for the pet home, only valued to the breeder, with this though you will find our dogs are less pricey when we do litters without AKC papers”

That’s an interesting excuse.

The cost of registering a puppy is something like $30/puppy?? (Someone correct me if I’m wrong) That means they’re saving a LOT of money by not registering their pups and can sell them REALLY cheaply. That is the reason they can sell each non-registered puppy for more than $1000 less than they charge for their AKC puppies:

"$800-$1000 Pet price NO AKC papers provided...When AKC papers provided $2300"

Something stinks here.

It's $25 + $2 per puppy to register a litter. To individually register a dog is $30 to $75, depending on how many "extras" you add on (pedigree, Lost & Found enrollment, etc.).

Call me cynical, but I find it doubtful that they are doing it to "protect these exquisite lines" when pretty much any Tom, Dick, or Harry willing to fork over the money can import a dog from Europe. The fact that either one of the parents is unregistered or on Limited Registration is a lot more believable.

"$800-$1000 Pet price NO AKC papers provided...When AKC papers provided $2300"

Something stinks indeed! Breeders AKC register the litter, then individual puppies are named/ registered to owners. Registering a litter costs $25 + $2 per puppy.

AKC registration is useful to dog owners, even if it is limited registration for a companion/ pet. In order to compete/ participate in things as simple as a CGC a dog has to be AKC registered.

$2300 for an "AKC registered" doberman is in line with what reputable breeders charge (with ears cropped). And the reputable breeders have done extensive health testing and have conformation/ working titles in the dam/ sire. Plus they breed to the best compliment to their dam, not just the dog that happens to be in the same house.

I agree that something is a bit off there. Papers are more than just for breeding, even an altered dog is easier to get into any dog sport with papers than one without. And let me tell you if I were buying a "working line" doberman I would sure as hell need something to do with it other than just sit on the couch.

I'm not a dog, I am a Doberman!!!

Ooh, registration is even cheaper than I thought. That means they should be able to sell their un-registered pups for....$500??

Who have dogs that are very obviously the same size and/or not even as well boned or structured as your typical AKC conformation doberman.... (something a simple google image search could show buyers).

I'm not even going to touch the line on AKC/American lines being more "inter bred" than European
