Breeder Recommendations in VA/MD/PA

Hi All:
After lurking for awhile, I'm finally going to post something.
We lost our our doberman to cancer a couple of years ago and are just now ready to find a new dog. Our primary interests are agility and obedience - though health is the most important consideration, so would like to purchase a doberman puppy from a reputable and conscientious breeder. Health testing and adherence to breed standard are both a must.
I have looked at the DPCA referral site. That being said... not all reputable breeders are listed there. Before I start making blind calls, I want to ask for breeder recommendations in the Mid-Altanic region. We would like to find a puppy in the relatively near future but are new to the area and haven't made dog connections yet...

Do a search to see if there is a Doberman Club in your area, it would be worth contacting them and ask for breeder referrals.

Good luck with your search.

And keep in mind that there are lots of great Doberman in rescue situations that are in need of forever homes. If interested check out Petfinder for your area.

i really need to save the posts i write for these inquiries!

hi there! i'm right smack in the middle of your search area.

first off, we have a number of GREAT rescues in the region.
DARE (serves Maryland and Virginia): DAR&E (DARE) Doberman Assistance Rescue & Education - Doberman Assistance Rescue & Education
Distinguished Dobermans: Distinguished Dobermans Rescue, Inc. - Home
Doberman Pinscher Rescue of PA: Doberman Pinscher Rescue of PA, Inc.
Delaware Valley Doberman Pinscher Assistance: Delaware Valley Doberman Pinscher Assistance, Ltd.
Furever Homes: https://www.facebook.com/FureverhomesDobermanRescue/
DOBER, Inc: Available Dogs - DOBER, Inc. (Dreaming of Better Endings Rescue)

secondly, if you absolutely want a puppy from a reputable breeder (which i totally get!), PLEASE contact the breed clubs in each state for assistance.
Maryland: Metropolitan Baltimore Doberman Pinscher Club - Metropolitan Baltimore Doberman Pinscher Club
PA: Quaker City Doberman Pinscher Club -
Virginia: Cavalier Doberman Pinscher Club, Hampton Roads, Virginia (doberman rescue for local area) and Potomac Valley Doberman Pinscher Club

each chapter club will have an individual on the board doing referrals. they'll know who is actively breeding and expecting puppies.

Recommend Lindsay Davis in Virginia, wonderful working Dobermans, very reputable breeder. (Dei Dohse) Very active in Working Dobermans of the Carolinas.

I know someone in Ohio that has pups that will be ready in about a month. I was referred to her by Pamelot when I didn't make the cut on her litter due to it being small. It is this woman's first litter but she seems to be doing everything right and the recommendation from Pamelot went a long way with me. Let me know if this interests you.
