Doberland puppies?

I am looking for a pet quality Doberman. I have been talking to Doberland about one of their pups but in a quick google search I see some controversial reviews. It's hard for me to find more about them because their website is pretty basic, a few pictures but lacking in information. (which may be my first hint).

Any experience with them?

They appear to be health testing (of which I'd be asking for copies in which to verify said information).

No titles, lots of imports...
What is drawing you to this breeder?

To be honest the draw to this breeder was a pretty and ready to go puppy. I know that probably sounds horrible. I have had 3 amazing Dobermans in my lifetime with pedigrees I knew nothing about but they were such wonderful, loyal and loving pets. I lost my last boy at the age of 14, 3 years ago.

I want another pup in my life and I love the idea of one already coming with ears done, for a decent price.

I am in SE Wisconsin and I know that breeder is in MO but they said they ship which initially I was hesitate about it. I am really unfamiliar with the world of breeders as this would be my first experience getting a pup in this fashion. In the past my dogs came from people who got a pup and a few months later decided they couldn't keep him/her for whatever reason, and I gladly gave them a forever home.

Personally, I'd pass. Looks like another Euro BYB/greeder, to me. To quote their website "Our Dobermans are Champions in conformation or hold titles in various levels of Obedience or working dog." Well..... they have one male that they seem to be working with a "BH test planned for May 2015 , expecting to trial for IPO 1 in the Fall 2015", but none of the other dogs have any sport/performance titles listed, and none of them are in the database for having ANY AKC obedience titles. One or two of them have a CGC, which I wouldn't consider that prestigious a title. AS for the conformation titles, they all seem to be either European Puppy and Youth titles, or else IABCA titles (which, while fun, are worth about as much as the paper they are printed on). About the only thing I can say in their favor is that they are doing more health testing that your average byb/greeder.

ETA: This breeder sounds familiar for some reason. I'm thinking they were mentioned on a thread not all that long ago.

Check out the DPCA web site. Email breeders, phone, and connect with people who are interested in bettering the breed not just profiting off their reproductive organs.

You still have to do your homework, but it is a good starting point. Breeders such as the one you brought up always seem to have puppies as that is where the money comes from.

This is the thread about the Tyson referred to in the thread I previously linked. https://www.dobermantalk.com/puppy-co...sJ5QTGe8HAAQNA Really not too surprising she's gotten rid of all her dogs with "Guardian Angels" in their names. I was wondering why another BYB had four new Guardian Angels bitches all of a sudden.

Thank you both for your help... and Rosemary thank you for that thread. Wow, that has me running for the hills. When I look at the pictures of the pups I was thinking about they both had those thicker legs, I wonder if it could be similar as Tyson.

I will just stay on the hunt and be patient. thanks for the help!

Yeah, isn't that what Guardian Angel K9, Margo Richards, changed her kennel name to...trying to loose the multiple bad review trail behind? Think her and her daughter both breed or at least have two different names between them to breed under.

I wouldn't risk getting a pup from her if she had the last dobermans on earth!!!

Hey, welcome to DT.

Frankly, searching for a decently-bred Doberman puppy nowadays can be not just a job, but an adventure

Our breed is so riddled with health and temperament issues, I actually don't envy you the task.

Like you, my Dobes have always been rescues/rehomes.

If I were to start looking for a well-bred pup, I'd get out and hit some shows and trials, listen, and absorb--find dogs in the ring whose look and temperament appealed to me, then speak with the breeder of those animals.

You can find AKC events at infodog.com

The DPCA breeder referral list will at least give you some contacts to start with, but as said above, do your due diligence. Just 'cause someone is or is not on that list, does not quality and ethics guarantee.

There're a couple stickies around the forum that might be helpful to you, since you said you aren't familiar with the whole breeder deal--"Puppy Buyer Etiquette" in the puppy section, "How to Find a Reputable Breeder," and one on which health documents and titles to look for (forget the name on that thread), and there's a great one about not wanting a show dog, but "only" a pet, and why you will do better finding a show/competitive breeder for that.

Good luck, hopefully some of our members who are in your part of the nation will see this and chime in with some leads for you.

Doberland

I have just stopped contact with the breeder for Doberland. Margo Richards and LaRue Case are the breeders at DoberlandRichards. I had ordered a puppy through them and every step of the way with her was difficult. I asked a few questions because this is my first time ordering a puppy and getting it shipped. I asked her when she was dropping off the dog, and what was included. Right away she says she doesn't need this and told me I will no longer be receiving the dog that was already booked to ship to me. I would never deal with Doberland again and highly recommend anyone to look elsewhere for their puppies.

Count your lucky stars that you didn't get a pup from her.

If you could tell us more about yourself, your plans for your pup, and how far you're willing to travel, that would help us direct you to a good breeder.

Any time you can just "order" a puppy and it is shipped to you, its a VERY bad idea. If the breeder doesn't check you out extensively, they are NOT a good breeder.
A breeder should be there to answer any and all questions. Glad you got out of that one! There are good breeders in MO and WI but there are also many bad ones. Look for a reputable breeder and your puppy will come to you cropped with ears healed.

We purchased a dog from Doberland and it was the worst experience of our 40 years of raising this majestic breed. We have raised 2 from puppies and 13 rescues from all over the country and unfortunately I did not check out the Doberman forum or Ripoff report.
The 3 year old Serbian female showed up in Oregon still producing milk and was sick, The poor dog could not run 100 yards w/out having to lay down. the only health record was a rabies shot for shipping despite just having a litter and a C-section. When I called the breeder Margo Richards, she said "I don't need this" and hung up. Even though I just spent $2000 for the dog and $700 to ship. This dog with CGC di not know her name or even the most basic commands like sit or down. Doberland now offers a 5 year health guarantee on her pups. REALLY? We are not Doberman amateurs but are new to the breeders and this was the worst experience of our 40 years.. Avoid her at all costs, she is a real drag and we await help from our attorney.....

I purchased a pup from Margo in April of last year. I purchased him for companion and service dog work. He was never meant for show so I'm not 100% capable of reviewing his conformation status. I can definitely tell you that Jazz has got to have the most amazing temperment of anybdog, doberman or otherwise, that I have owned in my 50 years! He was a bit shy when I picked him up. But within 3 days you would never know it. He loves everybody. Men, women, children, all dogs and wants to play with the neighbors cats although the cats don't feel the same. He is very teachable and eager to learn. He got his CGC at 1 year old. He takes commands in German, english and hand signals. We are currently working with a trainer for service dog tasks and she tells me that for 16 months old he is doing amazing and well ahead of the game. My absolute only complaint was that when i picked him up (we met halfway) that he seriously needed a bath. I have never regretted, for one minute, spending the money for this dog. I honestly don't know how I lived without his quirky, annoying, adorably loyal butt before now.
As far as Margo is concerned we still keep in touch and she is always happy to see pictures and videos of Jazz's accomplishments.
That's it...thats all I've got. I hope it helps.

purchased 2 dogs from there from 2 different litters about a year apart. Finding the place was horrible both times, the first time purchasing was fine though, the second time was horrible. They have poor cell service, also she was rushing us to get there because she wanted to go to Kansas City to go shopping. Now the second pup has a lot of issues and Margo just doesn't care. She got very pissy with me when I expressed my concerns with her about them. BYB for sure. Stay away.

I am so shocked to hear all of these comments about Margo. I have been very happy with my experience and my dog. I'm so sorry to hear that you have all had these awful experiences and I'm now wondering if I just got extremely lucky.

I'm trying to load these links and I keep getting "page not found". My concerns are growing as I have purchaced a pup from Margo who is now 17 months. Absolutely no health or temperment issues but I am very interested in these links.
