Doug and Jacque Matson of Kansa Dobes are good people that raise nice quality dogs. A friend of mine bought a male puppy from them this spring, and she couldn't be happier with him - he's gorgeous, healthy and very outgoing. They health test their dogs, show successfully in conformation and work at putting titles on both ends. Proper Doberman temperament is important to them, and I know that Doug just put a BH on one of his bitches. I like that they have been combing European and American lines, and have still had success in the breed ring.

I think that Kansa is good place to buy a Doberman from, but be prepared to answer a lot of questions. They are thorough in their screening process, as they should be.

I really appreciate the reccomendation. However, I would like to say that I hope most breeders, (and I think they are) are breeding for both working ability and correct conformation- or an all around appropriate type of Dobe. I just hate to think of our breed going the way of the GSD, as example only, where there is such a huge difference in physical type and in drives.
I think a dobe should look good and be able to work. I know there are a lot who disagree that this is achieveable, but I still think it should be a common goal. I know it isn't perfect yet, probably a long way from it, but a dobe is a dobe is a dobe and should not be a divided breed. Off my soapbox!

And towards that end, I would also add....

Renejade
Bell'Lavoro
Kansa

I think all are doing a good job of producing total dobes.

One to add to this list is Liz Gentile - Dancing Star Dobermans.

Being new to the breed, I really appreciate the time that Liz took - and continues to take - with my husband and me as a mentor. She takes wonderful care of her puppies; cares for four beautiful and accomplished dogs of her own; and is in general a wonderful person.

I personally recommend Eve Auch from Irongate Dobermans in Truckee, CA. We have a puppy from her most recent litter. My brother-in-law had a puppy from a litter many years ago. Eve health tests for everything. Almost all of the Dobermans in our puppy's pedigree have CH titles. Plus, Eve goes out of her way to add obedience and temperament titles to her Dobermans.

Moreover, Eve is very supportive. She is there for us with every question. She retains a strict right of first refusal for every puppy she produces. She is proud of and responsible for each puppy she produces.

We couldn't be happier with our Irongate puppy and Eve Auch.

Another one on the east coast is Dabney - Linda Krukar. I was fortunate enough to get a pup from her in the spring and she is amazing. I've had dobes for many years but never a show dog. She has been a true mentor and has helped me learn a lot!!

Rauschund Dobes

[QUOTE=DLS;220860]I DLS personally recommend the following breeders: Botrina, Gatehouse, Promise/Olympia, Rauschund, Wittrock, and I will add others as I check them out.

I just want to reiterate that if someone is looking for a beautifully bred and beautifully cared for doberman baby in the NE/ Mid Atlantic region (NY state)- you couldn't find a more supportive, down to earth breeder than CaroleAnn at Rauschund Dobermans. Her dogs are lovely (AKC and Can BISS Champions) with 'to die for' temperaments. She breeds infrequently- so, if you're lucky enough to be looking for a puppy when she has a litter- you could be in for a wonderful experience with a puppy that has been bred for beauty, temperament and longevity. She's picky about where her babies go- so, be ready to provide the reassurance she needs that you will provide a wonderful, caring, forever home !

I recommend Pat Reinhardt of Shadeko Dobermans. She's been breeding for 17 years & is an absolute wealth of information. I talk to her every single day from early morning to late at night, since a month before I got my baby. Her dogs have wonderful personalities, as does Pat. They had the health testing. She cares so much about her dogs/puppies & it shows. I drove 5 hours to get my puppy and I wouldn't have done it if I had even the slightest doubt that I wasn't getting quality. I recommend her 100% & anyone can PM me for more information.

JB.

I have only had my puppy for a little over a week, and I feel that i got her from a very reputable person. Plase understand that I said "feel". Gerry Mull is a breeder and handler of Dobermans, and lives in Conneticut. He was hihly recommended to me from people I totally trust. My last issue of Doberman Digest has more photos of him with award winning Dobes than I can count.
I feel truly privileged to have been able to get one of his pups last week.

In Canada, Vancouver I can recommend Caprigem Dobermans Home

It's where we got our dobie from. Jeff Wong is very supportive, his dogs are well looked after, all kept in the house, health tested and titled. We saw our puppy's older brother and sister from the same mother and they had lovely, friendly temperaments plus they look really good. He does not breed very frequently, we live in the same city so Jeff also posted our dog's ears every week.
And our 8months old now Choco is just great so far

I know I have recommended this breeder before, but................I met her and a couple of her DObes in person at the DPCA National and i must say the DObes of Rauschund are AWESOME!!! They are so well put together in mind and body! You should have seen Hoss, now we all know what a handsome boy he is as we have had the pleasure here on DT to see pics of him, but, he IS even better looking in the flesh, and his temperment is amazing he is ready to show, play or flop at ringside at the drop of a hat. Nothing spooks this young boy, he loves everybody he is introduced too. The elevators at the show site were glassed on one side so you could see out as you went up or down, I was a bit 'spooked' by it, heehee, but Hoss, he just went in and out, up and down and did not give a s--t! ANd Rauschunds other Red Dober boy Austin, well what can I say, a five point major at the Host Clubs Show and won his class at the DPCA Specialty against some very nice dogs. Austin will finish his AM Ch. in no time.
But you know, when you meet their breeder you will soon see that she is one of those special people that come along in our breed who truely have the dogs best interests at heart. She is very professional and ethical ,plus so knowledegable about our breed. www.rauschund.com

I agree with incredibledobes and I see he recommends my bredder Bell'lavoro Doberman. Middletwon, NY...One just has to go to Vicky's home and see the beautiful facilities she has for her dogs...She loves her Dobes--Her Dobes are all beautiful and the greatest working dogs..Just take a look at her Giovani, the only American Dobie to achieve the German Korung. I could go on and on. She has to choose you to take one of her dogs.

Breeders in Ontario

I recommend Garshangan Kennels in Ontario. I have had two Dobermans from Garshangan Kennels and they are always there if I need them and I have been in the house to see how the dogs are raised. The only other Kennel I would buy from is Wrath/Liberator also in Ontario. I have also been in their home and have only good things to say.

Spreadsheet Started Online...

I started a spreadsheet online...it's very simple and not complete at all. I got this information based on just the first couple of pages of this thread.

Moderators can PM me and I'll give them "edit" functionality; as of now it's view only.

I'll continue to update it with information from this thread until a moderator takes over.

Although I do not have a dog from Pat, I will say that she's been wonderful in answering all my questions about showing, breeding practices and pedigrees. I also respect the fact that she tries (and sometimes accomplishes) finishing her dogs herself instead of handing them off the big name handlers.

Thanks Pat!

Gold Grove is excellent, they have bred some top dogs, and they do a great job. Sharon has been doing this for a very long time and she knows her stuff.
