Stedfast dobermans

Hi Guys,

We are looking for a good breeder and went to the dpca website and located one near us (stedfast dobermands) and want to see if you guys have heard of them, your opinions, if anyone had a Dobie from. Them etc. they have done hips, elbows, liver, typhoid. The dam is a vwd carrier bred to a clear sire. We like them so far and are going this weekend to see them in person. We are hoping you guys might have personal experience with them.

Thanks

One thing missing from your health list is heart stuff. DCM kills about 50% of Dobermans. What are the results of the sire/dam last echo and holter?

I did find them in one of last year's Doberman Pinscher Magazines. Nice dogs, looks like they are showing and health testing. But, I agree with Meadow Cat in that I would want to know who the sire and dam are, and also what their most recent Holter and Echo results were. In addition, I would want the most recent Holter/Echo to be within the last year.

I would rather have a pup from a litter without so much Cactus Cash in it. Would definitely want heart test results, a year or less old, on the sire and dam of this litter and all grandparents if you can get them from their breeders. Well Cactus Cash has been dead for a while.

Steadfast appears to be a fairly new breeder who is doing most right.

It's not him so much as what's behind him, Brunswig's Cryptonite, who dropped dead breeding a female. Dropping dead is usually a strong probability dcm. Having any one dog in a pedigree multiple times is generally not a good idea.

Unfortunately, Eddie was bred sooo much, it's hard to avoid him. Once I see more than three of anyone it would be a deal breaker unless they lived till 12 or 13 and even then I would want to know why they died. Anything a dog dies of multiplied numerous times in a pedigree is not good. But you have to start considering how far back they are also. When it's the fifth and sixth generation, it doesn't carry as much weight as second, third or fourth.

There's enough dcm in this pedigree to make me nervous without Eddie. I'm just glad I'm not a breeder in this day and time.

Update

Thanks everyone for your input, the stedfast litter is all taken already (before we could meet in person and ask more questions). We live in eastern CT does anyone have a breeder they recommend around us? I've contacted the ones I found in our area on dpca and waiting responses. Health and temperament are equally important to us, we are looking for a pet Dobie. Thanks for everyone's insight

SO it isn't so much Eddie as it is his sire, Kafka? But the apple doesn't fall far from the tree... I get it. According to Dobequest, Cactus Cash lived from 1994-2012. Is this true?!

His brother GCH Cambria's Omen is a looker too. I have been looking into Knockout for some time now. I am strongly considering them for my next dobe should I be a good candidate.

Thing is they've allowed Eddie to be bred SO MUCH he's damn near impossible to "get away from" unless you're on a unicorn hunt & find someone using vintage stored on a litter.

He's his own personal bottleneck and the heavy use of Nick is 2.0

To me these are "ribbon " litters.

Which term? Bottleneck or ribbon litter?
Bottleneck means little genetic diversity. Try finding a dog in NA on dobequest without Brunswigs Cryptonite & Cambria's Cactus in it at least once.

Should not have such prevalence in this day and age but it continues.

When i see new litters with these overused dogs in them i think "desperate to win " not "wants them to live forever " .

Sadly they aren't the only examples - new short lived studs who threw winners have taken their place.

Are these examples of "bottlenecks" or are these the genetics of the dogs on the thread I totally side lined here.
