Our dobies mostly slept with my husband, as he's a more stationary sleeper, while I got the cats, since I'm a tosser and a turner. (Yes, we have separate rooms. We both sleep much better this way!) So yes, they were allowed up on the beds.

As for the couches and such, they were allowed on them without permission if no one else was sitting on them. If a person was anywhere on the couch/chair/loveseat, they could only come up if invited. This led to my male standing with one paw resting on the couch, staring at you, still as a statue for eons until you either relented and let him up or told him to go lay down.
