If the door of the crate is opened whats the purpose of the crate? I never used crates for my pups. They should want to be close to you when their young so why not set up a nice bed for him in your room, in time he will sleep where you put the bed. But until their mature they need guidiance and a sense of security, if their raised this way they will grow into a well rounded trusted dog. At 8 months he's still a pup, my pup is 13 months today he sleeps on his bed next to me, he has the run of the house all the time, but he's still young and favors being in the bedroom at night. I will put his bed in the middle of the family room so both front and back doors can be seen, when he matures abit more and house protection training begins. Your pup wants to be near you, why move him away you choose him to bring home now he chooses to be near you, thats a big part of bonding. Von.
