EEeek! I hate it. It will be Diesels first, as he was born in December. I've tried to prepare, we have had a fireworks CD playing whilst training and playing for a couple of weeks now, and he seems to be ok. He barks at the fireworks outside though, but I went out with him last night and praised him alot when he was quiet, with a couple of biscuits.

Have done that again so far tonight, fed him earlier so he can go out to the toilet before it gets too bad. The cat is more afraid than he is so far!

I'm just worried because my last dog was awful on bonfire night, I managed to control it better the last couple of years after reading about not reinforcing their panic and praising her when she was calm.

So I will be hanging around on here all night praying it will all be over quickly!

We started on the Bach's rescue remedy/DAP a few days ago and we've been ok so far. Fireworks started at 5 around here!!

I'm not a fan of bonfire night, then again, the whole spirit of just about every holiday is dampened by my OH. lol

Oh thanks for reminding me! I was using Rescue Remedy on Loki for the past couple of years, that probably had an effect on her behaviour too, I totally forgot. I shall go and see if I have any left, just in case...

They have started already, but it doesn't quite sound like a war zone yet, usually gets that way about 7.30-8 here.

CNS, its a celebration to mark a gunpowder plot to dig under the houses of parliament and blow it up. People set up bonfires and set off fireworks (lots and lots and lots and lots of fireworks!!)

Bonfire night Thats the wikipedia explanation. It's great fun for most people, but not so fun for most animals. And it falls on a weekend this year so will go on all weekend probably.

It's been on all week here! It's summer so everyone has gone crazy with the fireworks. Our cat is pretty bothered, he was hiding under my flatmates bed all night! Poor guy! Luckily for our dogs, they don't have fireworks out in the countryside by my parent's house, because the boarding kennels are there (people send their dogs their for the weekend to get away from the fireworks) and there are lots of horses, a few years ago some people lost quite a few horses who went through fences etc. Out there they have a large public display and no one has displays at home- they will be having a bonfire on the farm though, the dogs LOVE running around the fire and having lots of people over.

I had Bramble stuck to me all night.. while the others including the pups wernt even the slightest bit phased.
Raw hide chews handed out to all of them and a floor full of contended and distracted dobes followed.

It wasnt helped though by the MORONS my OH invited over didnt set up the fireworks right in the field and more than one was launched at the house. Surfice to say.. thats the last tiem they come over with fireworks.

Could be interesting at Newyears as i have 2 pups in extra on holiday. yum.

Well he wasn't too bad in the end, he was even reasonably happy to go out in the garden (if I went with him). The distant ones didn't seem to bother him but the neighbours ones that went off right outside our front door set him off barking badly.

I found if I kept myself busy he was fine, it was when I sat down to watch TV he was playing up (more attention seeking than fear I realised). So last night I managed to clean the whole kitchen, wash and dry some pots, clean my bedroom, do some washing, change my bedding, cook the tea, more than I get done on a normal day :) just to keep him quiet.

Discowhore, I didn't know they celebrated it over there! The 1 o'clock in the morning ones I can understand better than the people who let them off in broad daylight, what a waste of money!

We are in the commonwealth so we get Guy Fawkes and Queens birthday too! The only silly thing about Guy Fawkes here is that because it is summer, it doesn't get dark until 8-9pm... so the fireworks don't start until late!
