| Town Hall Topic - Poop Patrol I know this is a topic everyone faces, but really have not seen any discussions on this. So in the spirit of being a well rounded forum, I decided to address this topic here. - What is your preferred method of poop pick-up? (pooper scooper, glove and bag, etc)
- Who is the designated pooper picker upper? (You, designated spouse, children, third-party vendor)
- How often do you pick-up poop? (daily, weekly, monthly) What is the weight per volume do you estimate you remove?
- Do you inspect the poop for proper digestion of food or other reasons?
- Does your dog only use one specific area or is the whole yard used?
- What technique or methods do you use to prevent lawn damage?
- Do your local ordinances specify specific requirements to dispose of the dog waste?

| Hahaha nice subject Krat
But as you can imagine it's a subject i have to approach daily usually with a bag in my hand, which we buy in packs of 1000 by the way.
Who ever is walking the girls gets the job of pooper scooper in my case that is usually me not mrs b.
And yes since we went to raw feed i do tend to give the inspection it gives you a clue as to how a certain type of meat is affecting digestion, and i have to say it is a lot smaller amount due to the raw feed, more compact and bijous i have to say.
As we live on the edge of a park/woods/sport field there are proper poop bins within a 1min walk of the house so we use those.(mrs b does tend to pick any up from the back yard).
I would not like to think about how much the girls do weekly /monthly but i would imagine it's a fair old bit .
If you are caught with a dog fouling the local area it is up to a £5000 fine (approx $10,000) so for me i think i would rather clear up after my dogs.

| Minimally twice a week in the yard. Usually 2-4 times/week. As to how much we remove? Errr.. no clue. I don't quantify I just scoop. Quote: - Do you inspect the poop for proper digestion of food or other reasons?
| Nope Quote: - Does your dog only use one specific area or is the whole yard used?
| it ends up being the entire yard, but each dog has their preferences as to where they LIKE to go. Rah's being the most annoying (on the gravel and right in front of the back gate!) Quote: - What technique or methods do you use to prevent lawn damage?
| I've given up. Though I am going to try odoban soon. Quote: - Do your local ordinances specify specific requirements to dispose of the dog waste?

| I can honestly say I have never had to pick up a single pile of GKar's poop. I live on a half acre lot so it has never been a problem and he does not do his business while we are walking. He tends to go all over the yard but more towards the edge so I do not really have to even see it unless I am mowing. So far he has not caused any lawn or plant damage. I have used baking soda in the past thou. Gkar is the most regular dog I have ever seen. 5 minutes after he eats in the morning he goes, which is lucky since that is when I leave for work, and about an hour after he eats at night. I sit on the porch in the morning watching the birds and making sure he is finished and if I notice anything I will inspect it. |

Two grocery bags (I like the nicer bags from one specific store) - one for my hand and one for the "stuff". I always inspect them first for holes - LOL! I also always carry a smaller poop bag in my pocket and have bags stashed in my truck.
- Who is the designated pooper picker upper? (You, designated spouse, children, third-party vendor)
Are you kidding? ME - my husband and kids NEVER pick up!
- How often do you pick-up poop? (daily, weekly, monthly) What is the weight per volume do you estimate you remove?
Depends on the time of year. This time of year with the kids running around more, I pick up at least every other day. Right now we are having a new deck built so I pick up every day.........don't want workmen to step in doo!
- Do you inspect the poop for proper digestion of food or other reasons?
I like to count how many of my daughters elastic hair bands are in Louise's poop - Does your dog only use one specific area or is the whole yard used?
There are areas they favor, but tend to make use of the whole yard - I have a pattern I walk when scooping so I don't miss any :-). Our fenced area is over 1/4 acre. - What technique or methods do you use to prevent lawn damage?
None - once my new deck is built, we will get quotes on fencing under it and along the house for a dog run - it will be graveled. That will hopefully help keep the back lawn in better shape. - Do your local ordinances specify specific requirements to dispose of the dog waste?
| Not that I know of. We have trash pickup 2x a week - they don't complain.

I like the pooper scooper with the rake as opposed to the little smooth one as it just smooshes everything
- Who is the designated pooper picker upper? (You, designated spouse, children, third-party vendor)
Me myself and sometimes...me
- How often do you pick-up poop? (daily, weekly, monthly) What is the weight per volume do you estimate you remove?
Pretty much every day in the summer because of the kids, less often in the winter
- Do you inspect the poop for proper digestion of food or other reasons?
Yes, doesn't eveyone? and I inspect vomit as well
- Does your dog only use one specific area or is the whole yard used?
They use the whole yard, and Grace will use the deck at night
- What technique or methods do you use to prevent lawn damage?
None
- Do your local ordinances specify specific requirements to dispose of the dog waste?
| None I am aware of, I put mine in a small trash can and when it's full, DH takes it to the dump to empty |

| No one but me does the poop patrol for the yard use a rake and the shovel type pooper scooper. When out use the Sunday paper sleeve I save them for that purpose even have them on my scooter & Buddy's back pack.
I try to pick up everyday since Patches will eat it if she gets the chance but since we had had so much rain makes it very difficult to pick up.Yes I look at it sometimes Buddy has odd stuff in it. I put it in a Trash can then DH deals with it.
Patches Mom
DH never has picked up any poop ever only gripes about it if I miss any in the back yard. |

| * What is your preferred method of poop pick-up? (pooper scooper, glove and bag, etc)
I prefer the bag and latex glove method. Please don't ask me why I have latex gloves around the house. We use the plastic bags from the local supper markets, since they are free and you can take as many as you like at times. * Who is the designated pooper picker upper? (You, designated spouse, children, third-party vendor)
Me...I actually found some local ads for a company to come pickup the poop for you, quoting a price of about 10 bucks a visit.I try to do it when the dogs aren't around. I feel it gives them the wrong message and weakens my authority as pack leader. * How often do you pick-up poop? (daily, weekly, monthly) What is the weight per volume do you estimate you remove?
I do it atleast twice a week or more if necessary. Not sure of the weight either, just thought that phrase sounded neat. * Do you inspect the poop for proper digestion of food or other reasons?
Not on a regular basis unless I think something weird is going on. * Does your dog only use one specific area or is the whole yard used?
Pretty much the whole yard, but Nikki has started to only do it on my lower tier since the new one arrived. Maybe the little will catch on a folllow her lead. * What technique or methods do you use to prevent lawn damage?
So far, the only think that seems to work is keeping my grass as strong/healthy as possible. Plenty of watering, keeping the grass at the maximum height for cutting seems to help, a little. The dogs nitrogen output really affects the lawn with any type of fertilizer we use for the lawn. I may stop that next year to see what the difference will make.
* Do your local ordinances specify specific requirements to dispose of the dog waste?
The only requirement is that the waste needs to be in a brown paper bag when in goes in the trash. I looked it up, but don't follow it. The garbage collection crew doesn't seem to mind, but then again, twice a year I leave a six pack out there for them just to say "Thank You".

Scooper with bag. Doodle thinks it is a game to find the poo. He is the helper that ecstatically runs to the next spot to point it out. Whatever floats his boat and makes him happy. - Who is the designated pooper picker upper? (You, designated spouse, children, third-party vendor)
Me of course. No one else would do it. - How often do you pick-up poop? (daily, weekly, monthly) What is the weight per volume do you estimate you remove?
I do it atleast weekly, usually twice a week. I don't weight it. I don't want to know. - Do you inspect the poop for proper digestion of food or other reasons?
I do. - Does your dog only use one specific area or is the whole yard used?
They each have their designated areas that they like to use. It does help with the pick-up, but I still comb through the whole yard just incase. - What technique or methods do you use to prevent lawn damage?
Nothing. My yard is a dog yard. I live with that. - Do your local ordinances specify specific requirements to dispose of the dog waste?
| No. The only ordinance is pick-up on walks or fines.

| What is your preferred method of poop pick-up? (pooper scooper, glove and bag, etc) Two plastic grocery bags & I always inspect for holes
Who is the designated pooper picker upper? (You, designated spouse, children, third-party vendor) usually me - once in a blue moon DH does it.
How often do you pick-up poop? (daily, weekly, monthly) What is the weight per volume do you estimate you remove? At least twice a week - sometimes more often - no clue on weight
Do you inspect the poop for proper digestion of food or other reasons? Of course - with Isabelle's colon cancer I am always checking for blood
Does your dog only use one specific area or is the whole yard used? The whole yard is her wasteland She like to potty in the lantana when it rains & I have no idea why
What technique or methods do you use to prevent lawn damage? We are lucky if we can keep the grass green - she tends to potty more on the gravel anyway
Do your local ordinances specify specific requirements to dispose of the dog waste? Don't know - never bothered to check. There are fines if you don't clean up after your dog in public places but other than that ??? |
