| | Big Pup | [quote=Kratty;72419]I know this is a topic everyone faces, but really have not seen any discussions on this. So in the spirit of being a well rounded forum, I decided to address this topic here. I think this is a good subject to talk about.
[list][*]What is your preferred method of poop pick-up? (pooper scooper, glove and bag, etc) At home, we use a pooper scooper then deposit into a 5 gallon bucket with tight fitting lid to stop any smell and keep away the flies.
When traveling in the car or motorhome, we use "Dispoz-A-Scoop bags and dump in trash bins. We wouldn't be without them. People not picking up after their dogs is one of the biggest complaints in RV parks. Dispoz-a-Scoop | Biodegradable Pooper Scooper
[*]Who is the designated pooper picker upper? (You, designated spouse, children, third-party vendor) At home it's usually me, but sometimes my husband. When traveling it's whoever walks the dogs picks up
[*]How often do you pick-up poop? (daily, weekly, monthly) What is the weight per volume do you estimate you remove? Daily or several times a day during spring, summer and fall. 3 times a week in the winter.
With two large dogs, each usually have 2 BMs a day so that's 4 piles a day.
[*]Do you inspect the poop for proper digestion of food or other reasons? Yes we want to see the consistency of the poop which lets me know how the dogs are going, that is why I like to pickup daily.
[*]Does your dog only use one specific area or is the whole yard used? The male lab likes pooping & peeing on the grass. The dobie girl goes in the greenbelt or perriwinkle (that is a real treasure hunt)
[*]What technique or methods do you use to prevent lawn damage? We just live with the dead grass areas. During the summer I may try watering in the urine but in WA we get enough rain to do that in fall and winter.
[*]Do your local ordinances specify specific requirements to dispose of the dog waste? We put the poop in a 5-gallon plastic bucket with tight fitting lid. Eventually the bucket are taken to our waste transfer station. When I checked many many years ago I was told we aren't suppose to put poop in our weekly trash can. |

| I use bags from the grocery store (gets rid of them & reuses them at the same time). Lucky me...I am the pooper picker-upper. I should do it every day & I guess I will have to when I have all 3 dogs, but with just Hooter I pick up 2x a week, usually. Sometimes, when it's rainy, I'll get lazy and do it 1x a week. He uses the whole yard, which is currently undergoing a major overhaul...so it's all dirt. No grass problems, yet. In winter he uses the cement right outside the sliding glass door. He doesn't like getting his feet wet. lol, silly!! Do I inspect the poop? Well, with my (gross) pick up method I have no choice. If anything is unusual I do look to see if I get any clues from the poop.
Our area will fine you for not picking up on walks, but I've never had to deal with that, Hooter doesn't go when he's on walks. But, they do have bags & waste containers at the local park. As for the stuff from the yard , I just toss it in the trash inside the plastic grocery bag. No issues so far!
