Hi everyone, I'm new here and was hoping someone could answer a question for me. I am looking at adopting a 5 year old doberman from a rescue place. I enjoying running and was wondering if a 5 year old still has a lot of energy? When are they considered too old to be running with?
Go for it. These guys are generally full of energy their entire lives. My x-husband was a runner and he ran with one our our Males up until 2 days before he died at age 11.
Take it slow and be mindful of the temperature and he should do just fine.
Our pup is 2, we've just started running him this summer, 1 mile at a time, and he tells us he's good after that. I think mostly because of the heat, because 30 minutes later his energy is back. We'll see what happens in the fall when it's cooler, i expect he'll be able to go much farther. Good to build up slowly though.
