Thanking

Ive noticed that the "thanking" function is pretty much useless. People just thank the people they like for no good reason. I don't really see a point in having them if people give them out for anything. If everyone gets them for anything, then how can we use the "thanks" to judge weather the persons post is to be taken with a grain of salt or to listened to?

Now, i could be way off base, and thanks could be just for fun, in which case please disregard this post.

Tom seems to have a good point here. If "Thanks" are similar to the feedback rating on Ebay then we don't really have anything else to "judge" any individual post by. Once you have been here a while, you start to get a feel for those who have similar beliefs as your own; you also learn who seems to have a good deal of experience, thus you get an idea of which posts to pay more attention to. However, when you are a NEWBIE you really have no other "milestone" to look at. Number of posts clearly has no benefit as some have more to say than others, and some of us lurk in the shadows of our mates *grin*

Thanks for bringing this up Tom.

I'm pretty sure the "Thanks" button was created so that screen space was not taken up by someone posting just a thank you in their post. Correct me if I'm wrong mods.

I thought they were for saying thank you if someone answered your question or said something nice about you or your dog. IMHO they should not be used as a barameter for bs or if someomes answer is correct.

That's pretty much what I mean Molari, saying thank you to someone who made a nice comment or whatever. It doesn't take up any space and it also does not post it as a new reply. Therefore someone is just not opening up the thread to look at a thank you.

Ok guys, This makes perfect sense. If this is the use of thanks then that is really cool. Just means everyone has to take the time to learn like everyone else did!!

Mama can't seem to focus tonight

Oh, I think if someone is passing out bad advise someone else will point it out quickly enough. Besides, bad advise for my dog might be the perfect advise for someone elses.

This pretty much sums it up. Some of us just say thanks to people for posting something nice or helping someone out.

The little icon to-wards the bottom of your "profile" looks like an old school weighing scale and says "add to blank's reputation" is more like the ebay thing you were talking about.

But of-course even that can be mis-used.

But you had a good point Tom, so I will thank you for that...lol

Fair enough. It wasnt a big deal or anything, it was just that on other forums they were used to credit or discredit people information posted. So i thought i would post.

I generally use the "thanks" button to show agreeance with someone's post or point of view on a particular matter or to thank them for comments made to me/Rudi. I think it is useful but don't use them all of the time.
