Solicitations

I was out of town this weekend, and just saw the latest attempt to hawk puppies using this board, the one from XXX dobermans.

Locking threads is all well and good, but doing only that still leaves the "ad" and contact info, etc. out there for people. Wouldn't it be better to completely remove these solicitations, rather than allowing people to use this board in that way?

I left it where it was because I thought there was some good replies in there about health testing, responsible breeding practices, etc that other members may benefit from.

But I can move it if that would be better.

I dunno..maybe it's just me, but I think there are enough opportunities to educate people without enabling people who use this board to market puppies, stud services, etc. I guess I just don't see the point of even having a rule against using this board to solicit if the "ads" are going to be allowed to stand. I think we SHOULD have this rule, don't get me wrong. But if there's no penalty to breaking the rule, like having the offending posts removed, it serves no real purpose.

I have to agree, I have been so slammed with all the cats that I have in and work that I haven't been on lately and haven't actually seen this thread in question, but I do understand Burn's stance on it. Perhaps we can edit the post to remove the breeder's name and contact info, then the rest of the information can stand for educational purposes.

I did put the offender in the Dog House (temp ban) for violating the rules, and locked the topic. I see your point that it shouldn't be allowed to stand if people can gain contact info from them to buy the solicited puppies. I will edit out the contact information as Lexus wisely suggested and move it back.

I'm really not trying to give you personally a bad time, Burns. But seriously-what good does removing the contact info do when anyone can send them an PM to get that contact info just by clicking on their screen name?

Again, maybe it's just me, but I think solicitation posts should be completely removed. That's what's done on just about every other bulletin board I can think of.

I understand what Murreydobe is saying, but personally, I agree with Lexus (and with Burns support of that idea). I really think the thread itself has so much educational value, and actually speaks to the ludicrousness and shallowness of the poster, so she shoots herself in the foot with her own posting. Removing her info, and banning her for a period will be a lesson to her, but the thread itself is a pretty compelling round table exchange, worth keeping. lois
