| Feedback First of all, I would like to say that I LOVE Dobermantalk! I think this site is a well-run, fun, highly-informative community of Doberman lovers from all over the globe, and I'm happy to be a part of it. I've learned oodles about Dobermans since I joined last fall. Since joining this site, I have re-visited my early childhood dreams of showing dogs, something I've always wanted to do. DT has also helped direct me towards my real childhood dream of going to vet school. It's still a few years away and I change my mind a lot, but it's certainly not out of reach. In the meantime, I'm going to stay involved with animals - hopefully working in the UVic Animal Care Facility beginning this fall, until I'm ready to apply.
I have made some great connections here. Sadly, one of these has been banned from the site as of today, and I'm not sure why.
I believe one of the major threads in question can be found using the following link: korbella in oregon
Refering to page 6, post #59, and a resonse from a moderator on page 7, post #62:
I think all Dragonman was trying to say was that if people are going to get so worked up over opinions of responding members, taking those opinions/ideas/questions as personal attacks and getting very upset over it, the forum just won't be as much fun (or as informative) anymore. Holy run on sentence. People (and not just the original poster) looking to get educated on certain Dobe-related topics might miss out on some good information if someone chooses not to post their own experience or opinion because their response might hurt someone's feelings. I don't think it's really any of our members' intention to hurt anyone's feelings!! It's just so easy to misinterpret the "tone" behind many posts, because these are just typed words, with little expression. We try; emoticons help, but it's still easy to take something the wrong way.
Yes, I've seen a few posts that did indeed come across as mean or nasty, but they were often followed up with an apology from the poster, and they agreed that they could have maybe said it a little differently, and that no harm was intended. I've received responses to a few of my posts that I thought were kind of rude, and I didn't agree with, but hey - we move along. I'm still here
I certainly did not get the impression that Dragonman's post implied she was ready to walk away from the forum and take HER information, advice, expertise or whatever with her. I think all she meant was there is an enormous amount of good information here already and even more hidden within our members as a whole, and it would be a shame to hold those ideas, experiences and opinions back, if we're constantly having to tip-toe around the possibility of hurting people's feelings. Which I doubt is ANY of our intentions here.
Personally, I love the lively, opinionated conversations - they make things interesting.
I've quoted him before, but I will quote him again, the 17th century English poet John Milton once said, "Where there is much desire to learn, there will be much arguing, much writing, many opinions, for opinion in good [people] is but knowledge in the making."
I mean no disrespect to the moderators here for their decision, as I have no idea what words were exchanged following the posts in the above mentioned thread. I just think it's sad to lose a good member like Dragonman. From my very first introductory post - she made me feel welcome and encouraged me to come out to dog shows on the mainland and check things out. I'm sure I'm not the only one here that will miss having her around.
Thank you, just wanted to get that out, without sending the Korbella thread out into space.

I only read that thread because it was reported - I read the entire thread and was actually surprised that it was reported in the first place. As I said at the begininning of my response the only thing that I would have said would have been "hey guys, get back on track" or something similar. Then I read Tracy's response, I didn't think much of it but read it again and it upset me for various reasons. As far as singling her out - I was responding to only her post.
She started her response "you know this forum isn't going to be fun anymore if we can't express ourselves" - Who said you can't? Nobody has ever been banned for expressing their opinion in a tactful manner - in fact, we encourage lively debate.
What really got me was "otherwise we should all go and leave this site to the naive puppy buyers and pet owners..."
To me that is a very condescending remark and I'm not the only one who took it that way.
In retrospect I should have made it clear to all - this manifesto is the result of numerous complaints (all kinds of complaints from veteran members to new naive puppy owners) - we will enforce it. If you (general you) don't like it, that's fine, it's your right, you don't have to stay. I appreciate everyone who posts here, whether they post only occassionally or daily, I appreciate every question asked, remark made or answer given. I feel as though everyone should have the right to express their opinion as long as it is given in a thoughtful manner. Of course there will be arguments, debates and disagreements, as an internet community we will learn and grow from them.
Tracy was not banned because of that thread. Tracy was banned because of her remarks in chat (that were not provoked) she was banned for calling more than one member here names (not surprisingly another Mod and I were targets of the name calling) and generally being disrectful of this forum and our efforts to moderate it in a fair way.
The decision to ban her was not only mine - We (moderators) take it seriously and talk about it as a group before anyone is banned.
I am and will remain one of the dorks on the bandwagon protecting the precious manifesto that was created to protect the other dorks on the site...

| So is it possible since you have all of these logs where Tracy said ban-able things to at least let her know what she was banned for and let her read those chat logs? I mean, after all, she was apparently there when it happened so it shouldn't be classified information. She's in the dark, as obviously are the rest of us.

| Absolutely, I have no problem e-mailing her the logs - Let me make sure the other mods agree but I don't think it will be a problem...

| | Lil Dog | Im a long time lurker , first time poster .... and will probably be my last after i feel the wrath of the super mod. And before you start visions of conspiracy swirling in your head and trying to figure out who i am. I can assure you we have never spoken or met. I am also one who learned and enjoyed dragonman's posts. Im just going to cut straight to the chase and not sugar coat it.
Tracy jo quote "Tracy was not banned because of that thread. Tracy was banned because of her remarks in chat (that were not provoked) she was banned for calling more than one member here names (not surprisingly another Mod and I were targets of the name calling)"
I know neither of you and it is obvious you have a personal conflict between you two. This is a situation that TAKIRASDAD or TK needs to step into the middle of. Dragonman was unjustly banned , and thats just not right IMO , maybe he can set aside conflict and judge accordingly. If indeed Dragonman was banned because of things said in chat. Then it is definatley not justified. I read the Manifesto twice from top to bottom and not one thing was said about what is discussed in Chat , it did mention however PM's , emails and forums ... but not one thing about chat. Maybe this is a revision that needs to be addressed. But as for thats the reason why someone was permanetly banned , i aint buyin it. There is more here than meets the eye. By reading dragonman's previous posts , i cant imagine what she could have possibly said to justify a permanent Ban. Get real peep's this isnt high school. Conflict is a way of life , its how you address it that makes you a step above the rest. |

| I think this all got way out of hand.
I've gone back and re-read most of Dragonman's posts. She's been pleasant, helpful and welcoming.
I've also spent many nights in Chat with her, and have not seen her act in any inappropriate manner.
It appears to me that it was a bad day and that one comment was taken in a manner that it wasn't intended to be taken.
I know Dragonman loves this forum and I'm sure she is heartbroken at the way this has all turned out.
I feel that all of us now have a good sense of how serious the mods are with regards to the manifesto and I think that TracyJo (along with ALL the mods) were trying to do the right thing. I do however feel that the punishment in this case was extreme.
I would like the mods to get together and re-evaluate this particular ban.
I would like to see it reversed and welcome back Dragonman to DT.
Everyone can have a bad day, and I think this is what it was. There are always exceptions and one should be made here!
