They are beautiful!! What type of knot are you using next to the beads. Also on that first lead with the gold, where do you get the big gold balls, I love them!!

Mallori was a HUGE help when I started to make my own leads also, she is full of information!!

I don't use the needles, I have some tiny tools that I got a the craft store and carefully lift the leather and weave it in!!

Thank you! I use terminal knots to secure the beads. They are also the same knots that are located near the end and handle of the brown and black leads. I really like these knots and they are pretty straightforward to tie. Beads that move on the lead bug me

I found the gold beads on Ebay, search under stardust beads and they should come up.
Any chance you could find some links or photos for what you use to weave your end back in? I am always curious how everyone else makes there leads- everyone has their own little tips and tricks.

Here is another one, one of my personal favorites - I am partial to black leads!

I am loving that last black lead you posted.
Say do you ever dye your own leather? Also have to ask if your hands hurt after doing these.

Thank you! I have considered trying it, and I am sure I will at some point but I am hesitant to drop the money to buy a hide or lace only to screw up the dying and sealing process. They used to hurt a lot but not really anymore, mainly my pointer fingers and thumbs as I used to roll the leads between my fingers. The braiding has never really bothered my fingers thankfully.

Wonderful thanks, I am at work now but will take some pics of the tool when I get home for you. I also was at a dog show in Chicago this weekend and there was a Jewerly show, OMG there was som BEAUTIFUL beads there!! I usually get most of mine on Ebay too but wish I would have had more time and $$ to spend at the jewerly show. Definetly going to watch for another and check it out again!

AgileDobe, you make some stunning show leads!! Can you PM me your website? I eventually need to buy one for myself, I use a plain leather hand-me-down one for conformation classes, and it's getting worn. I really love the black and gold one you posted, it's beautiful. I tend to like solid brown or black leather ones, with smaller beads. Though the pink one is very pretty!!

I make wet coats, and my husband makes collars, and we wanted to add show leads to the list things we make. But do they look difficult to make. I think it's beyond my brain and fingers to figure this out!!

I only use kangaroo on the leads although I have used pig skin (I think) to line some nylon webbing collars. It held up really well and looked great. I found a place that sells scraps of kangaroo leather I may have to giver that a go. Kangaroo is so popular with show leads as the skin is different which results in a higher tensile strength than any other leather.

I sent you a PM. The Brown and Black leads are my favorite too. They just seem so classy to me. I have a done a wet coat or two. Those are hard! The material is so strange to work with. For me it wasn't to hard to figure out how to braid the leads, but it was a lot more work and time to be able to do it really well. I see so many leads that are so so, and that's not what I want.

Agile dobe love the work you do! I have learned this braid and make leads and chokers out of paracord. I did make one short "traffic" lead out of very soft elk skin but I do not think its very strong.
Could you PM me your website? I'd love to look at the things you make

Those have got to be some of the most gorgeous leads I've ever seen, if not the most gorgeous. You sell these too? May I please have your site link as well?

Thanks everyone for looking! Here is another one, this is one of my favorites-

Nager525- I have very similar tools I use for finishing the lacing, thanks for the photo. I have a similar pair of pliers but I have never really used them, but I could see them being useful.

I played around with a paracord a little bit, you can do lots of cool things with it! I am not quite sure how strong elk skin is, but Kangaroo is supped to be one of the strongest, it has to do with the grain in the leather and the ability of the leather to retain it's strength even after it has been thinned down. Other hides can loose the majority of their strength when they are thinned. I sent you a PM too! Thanks for looking

For those who may have looked at the website recently it has gotten a bit of a makeover and I added some new pictures and will be updating more frequently.

Here is another one I think the purple and black turned out really nice together. It is almost iridescent when you see it in person. Depending on the light it looks anywhere from almost black to a lovely purple and looks great with a black Dobe. I may have to do another purple and black lead like it.

For one of our own DT members- NOX! The purple and black has been a bit of a hit.

A pretty brown lead for the reds/browns.

Really nice work! Is it against the rules for the website and facebook names/addresses to be openly shared in this string? If so, please PM that info too!

Have you ever done white? I am looking for a Boston Terrier show puppy and would want white since they are white collar banded. Love your work.

Absolutely love your work! Can you please PM me your website also? I am very interested in a black lead with beads that would go well with Lucy (black dobe) and also Gidget (black tri Aussie). I've always used the most basic show lead for Lucy, although it was the style our original handler liked most. But I think it's time to take it up a notch!

All of your leads are stunning, but I especially love that one with the black leather and gold beads that you showed and also the black with the turquoise beads.

Thanks!
