Question Showing with Stiches?

Jazz tore a hole in her neck chasing cats. We dont know how, we just heard her screaming and ran over to her and by that time she was on her way to us.

It's a pocket were the skin is no longer attached to the musscle with a hole at the bottom. She vet stitched it and the next day she ripped them out. The vet said to leave it then. Well it got a tiny bit infected so I took her in again and she got antibiotics, but he said to leave it open since the hole is at the bottom so the wound will drain. She is going back in on the 4th to have a tiny bit of the dead skin cut away and then stiched back together. She has the Alberta Working-Herding dog Assoc. anual specialty show on the 6th. I was told you can show them with stitches acording to the rules.

Would you?

I allready paid the entries so if I dont go I loose the money, but if I go I could get points, or loose and still loose the money.

It doesnt effect her gait and she is sound but of course it's her show side.

Why wouldn't you? It's just stitches...it's not like you redesigned the dog. And you can count on all injuries of any sort to be on the show side.

I can't tell you how many Dobes I know personally (including some of mine) who went to shows with an assortment of stitches and staples--and some of them even won.

Dobebug is right.... my show pup loves to play rough with my 7 yr neutered male dobe and it never fails, if she gets any scrapes/scratches, it's ALWAYS on her show side! I don't remember either of my pet dobes having as many scrapes/scratches growing up (of course, it's been a while... they are 7 and 14)... I sometimes think it's just because she is a show dog that she gets all these scrapes. Good luck at the show!

Absolutely, I think it's a rule of some kind.

Whether I'd show a dog with stitches or not probably would depend on where the stitches were, how many, how much of the surrounding area was shaved, etc.

Just like horses -they always hurt themselves before a big event. I have friends that have shown horses with stiches. I'd say as long as she's sound & there is no rule about it I'd go for it - even if you don't get any points it is still good practice right?

I know for sure in the US you CANNOT show a dog with stitches!!!

or bandage or wrapping of any kind. I know this because I recently had to check the rules because a friend of mine went in Rally and the judge excused her because of stitches. The day before was ok.

so I went and asked the show secretary who read out the rules and you absolutely cannot show with stitches in an AKC event.

As for the CKC call and ask!!!
