| I would have used picking a vet as I put more emphasis into finding the right vet for my dog and horses than picking my doc! |

| Handlers Tracy aka dragonman - just curious - why would you not recommend Cathy Ceely as a handler? You really do not know me at all - I have handled your dog one only one occasion and, per you, did a fine job.
For those of you who may not know -
I have owned and shown dobermans since 1981.
Owned and/or shown the following Conformation Top 20 dobermans:
BISS Am/Can/Int'l Ch. Wingate's Miami Sound Machine, WAC - Top 20 1993, 1994
BIS/BISS Am/Can Ch. Horizon's Topp Hat'n Tails - Top 20 1996
BISS Am/Can Ch. Royalwood Extravagant Legend CD, CGC - Top 20 2002
BIS/BISS Am/Can/Int'l Ch. Aeolus Arabian Knight, RN, WAC - Top 20 2004
I handled Ch. Foxfire's Devils 'n Demons to the 1998 DPCA Nationals Win from the Veterans Class.
I won First Award of Merit at the 2003 Nationals with Aeolus Arabian Knight.
I qualified for and attended the 2006 Eukanuba Invitational Bred By Exhibitor Championship event.
In a very limited breeding program, I have finished/have had finished several champions.
I have finished a number of other champion dobermans belonging to a variety of other individuals.
In 1996, the last year I handled professionally on a full-time basis, I handled the #17 doberman pinscher; the #13 Alaskan Malemute; and the #4 weimeraner in the country - all of these rankings were accomplished w/out advertising or extensive travel.
I would be interested in knowing on what basis you would not recommend me as a handler?

| | Alpha | Perhaps it is not your obvious handling talents nor your extensive resume, but rather the company of a particular person with whom you associate that prompted Tracy's response.

Tell me what company you keep and I will tell you who you are ~ Miguel de Cervantes (1547-1616) | Does the badmouthing ever stop? This can be such an educational discussion board, I have seen some wonderful discussions, but so much badmouthing going on with this thread and others. Why does it have to be like this? Can't we just talk about the dogs and keep personal feelings out of this? It's all about the dogs!! This is the main problem in the conformation ring today, with so many judges, it's about the people and not the dogs. Please stop the badmouthing. I've been a victim of it too and it's not a pleasant feeling, badmouthed by people that don't even know me, and the lies and twisting words around, they thrive on trying to make others feel bad. And I refuse to believe that someone would actually not recommend a handler just because of the company that handler keeps? That is insane! Please don't let this forum become like a certain e mail list that thrives on publicly humiliating good people. Thank You |

| Thank you for the most recent post. Elaine - if you have any concerns with whom I associate, that should be taken up with me directly, not posted on a public forum as really, that is irrelevant to my abilities or skills as a handler. Also,l my query was directed at Tracy, not at you, so if Tracy wishes to reply - publicly or privately, I am happy to address any concerns she may have.
Regardless, I've said enough on this matter.
Looking forward to this weekend in Puyallup, WA, with majors in dogs & bitches, although I do not know how well I'll be able to handle, given th 2nd degree burns to my hands - we'll see . ..

I was simply giving a response to a question. If I offended you, my appologies. |

You posted a question to a public forum...as such you are then soliciting public responses. You are no doubt an excellent, dedicated handler Cathy, as your record certainly indicates. There are however, other criteria for picking any professional be it a doctor, lawyer or even dog handler. Sometimes it is as simple as what a doctor's receptionist looks and acts like and has nothing to do with the doctor himself. Sometimes it's bedside manner. In my opinion, stating that one cannot recommend someone is a right we all have.
I heard about your accident. Get well soon.

I owner handle and I would love to hear from others who take their own dogs into the ring, not sure sometimes why I show since it's so hard these days to win as an owner handler, my problem is that I LOVE it so much, I'm addicted. I do have a dog that needs one point to finish and the next shows that he's going to, well, it usually is hard to make one point, I figured it would be an easy finish, but there are FIVE specials this year, 7 dogs and 10 bitches with EXTREMELY political judges. I'm thinking I might stay home, what a shame it has to be this way.
Years ago I was able to finish my own bitch but now it is so different, on this dog that needs one point, my handler put the majors in him, I'm almost positive that if she hadn't done it that he would still be needing majors, if it were me showing him the whole time. I did put most of his singles in him though. I'd love to hear comments from others that handle their own!! |

I'm not an owner handler, but I do have to respond to this. I don't think it's hard at all for an owner handler to win if they have a good dog and can present their dog well. I've seen owner handlers walk away with points (singles and majors) during just about every show weekend I've attended in the last 18 months. If anything, it seems like I'm seeing MORE owner handlers out there doing well than I did in the past.
