| | Alpha | Need a lot of help... I'm interested in showing my boy in conformation both Euro and AKC (I understand he will not be the favorite as he is a Dutch/German Dobie but it's experience none-the-less). I have never handled in a conformation show ever EVER before. I have attended them and unfortunately the Dobe people there seem a little...um, irritated with their own dogs let alone give me info.
Can I get tips on how to teach a 7 mo. old puppy to stack? What to look for? Any handling tips? We don't have any confo. classes here, nor can I afford them. I just want to get a start and my fiance can help me the rest of the way.
Silence is super social, btw. I just need some trusted friends to touch him and handle him like a judge would. Again, I'm looking for personal experiences, I know I can look for some tips on akc.org, but I'd rather trialed and failed's, lol. Thank you in advance for any tips!
After I start to learn how to stack him properly, I'll post pictures!
Oh, let's start with AKC. |

| check to see if there is a kennel club in your area offering handling classes, or see if there is a dobe club around, join and find a mentor who will help you. Lots of experienced people are willing to help, joining my local kennel club was a smart move, have found people to go to shows with, advise me on judges to show to, helped me with my handling skills (on top of going to the classes offered).

Why try to save money there when actual shows are soooo expensive? The preparation is just as important as the shows, and in a breed that is super competitive, where the show dogs are super trained, and with a dog that, as you described, may not be "the favourite", you'd just be shooting yourself in the foot by not going to classes. It's just making an uphill battle even steeper, IMO. |

| There's a dog show coming up the weekend of the 20th in Columbus In. That's about 2 hours north of me. I am guessing about 2 1/2 hours south of you. I could meet you there. My dog's handler will be there, although my dog is not entered. We might be able to get some good pictures if you are willing to go.

| | Alpha | Yeah, I know I need to go to classes..I promise I will as soon as I can afford them. I'm doing it more for fun than anything, but I like the competitive atmosphere and even the bit of snootiness, it keeps you from socializing, lol and more focused. At least in the OB ring. I'll have to check to see if I can go Dobes, I certainly will try though! |

They should have obedience there to watch as well if you are interested in AKC obedience.

| | Alpha | I compete in OB already, but I always love to watch, especially the handlers to see what they are doing. |
