| So far I'm going with Elaine, Cherie and Donna; we're caravaning.
If all goes well Boca will be entered in conformation and obedience (unless she's in heat which is a good possibiity).
I"m definitely going to do the handling seminar!

I"m definitely going to do the handling seminar! | How far of a drive from western Canada will it be for you? I'm figuring 19 driving hours from SE Pennsylvania. Gonna see some serious flat farmland - LOL - the kind where you can see straight down the road all the way to the horizon.
I've never been to Kansas - should we bring our red shoes? I think maybe we should have a red shoe party

| The host hotel is sold out, but there are several properties nearby. I hear that there are often no-shows/cancellations, so it might not hurt to put your name on a list if you prefer to stay on site at dobapalooza. |

| I have never been to one of these things. Do spectators bring their dogs?

I brought my girl last year, and she wasn't competing. As long as your dog is well behaved and you don't let it rough-house with dogs being shown (not suggesting yours isn't well behaved or you would let it rough-house), people seem agreeable to folks bringing their dogs. But I am by NO means an expert. Last year's nationals was the first show I'd ever been to.
One thing I did notice is this: People would ask, "Who's she by," which I came to believe (though I could be wrong), meant who is the sire. Am I wrong? The Niklby name seemed to get me a healthy amount of respect.
Though this is a remarkable story: One woman gave one look at her and said, "I think I know who bred this dog." And she was RIGHT! She said, "His girls are always so pretty, it seems every bitch I am drawn to comes from Kaywood." |

I was embarrassed to tell her!
Well I was thinking that since there is a huge dog event going on, the hotel would surely allow pets. But if it's sold out, I may have trouble finding another one that would, except for good ole La Quinta (HEAVE).

As far as bringing your dog, feel free. There are plenty of people there with Dobes that are not Champion quality. People are there with rescues to champions, and everything in between. There is also obedience/rally/agility/working dog venues. You can ask Dober Kim - she and Elle where there last year with rescues including an albino. I think they gots tons of loving from most people
You might want to bring a crate - there is crating space. Sometimes you just want to be dogless for an hour or two.
Whatever you decide, bring your money and credit cards because the shopping is the absolute best!!

I was embarrassed to tell her! | Ah most people are so consumed with their own dogs -- and as other posters have said, the sheer volume of activities going on -- that they don't have much time to be critical of others, even if they were so inclined. I met a number of SUPER nice, constructive people there. A woman from Arizona who competed in obedience (gosh do I wish I remembered her name, but she was a treat!) was very welcoming.
Sure there were a few snoots there, but they were the exeception, not the rule. Here was one of my favorite exchanges:
Me: Lovely puppy!
Owner: She's an "[enter very famous sire's call name here]" daughter
Me: We'll she's beautiful.
Owner: [Enter sire's registered name here]
Me: I know who he is, he's my girl's grandfather ... on both sides. [Note: I think it's great-grandfather, but who's counting ;-)]
Owner: (Suddenly my best pal!) Oh, she's so pretty, nice to meet you!
HA!
Note: I removed the dog's call/registered name from the exchange above to protect the innocent. I tell the story as an amusing aside, not as a source of criticism.
