Well, that would be one extreme end of the spectrum, and not the norm.

I'd definitely expect to see more progress than you've seen by 8 months in most situations. All you can do is keep posting and hope for the best.

I am a little concerned as to where the ear is folding. I do not know if a recrop will help. Once in a blue moon a dog will come along that has a 'broken' cartilage. Even if the ears were left natural the one ear would not 'perk' up. If this is the case sometimes an ear 'implant' is used to keep the ear up, but of course the dog could not be shown then because of the implant.
At any time after cropping did that ear ever stand up for more than one day?

All of mine do have the long show crop and I have not had an issue getting them to stand. The same vet cropped all of them. Both of my bitches were done posting by the time they were 5 months old. My boy is 6 months old today and is close to being done - his left ear is done but his right still droops after a couple of days. I'm trying breathe rite strips now.

I have never left them down more than during the day. He can pick up the ear that is flopped when on alert or just after he has looked down it will stand. Right after I take the tape off two it will stand for a couple hours.

OK, if he can hold it up when alert then I think a recrop may be the way to go. A shorter ear length will be easier to work with. But of course it means going into surgery again. I don't know what I would do in this case. Maybe go and talk to the Vet who cropped the dog and see what they suggest. It might be better to keep taping for awhile longer and see if the ear improves before the decision to recrop is made.

Okay. I did call the vet a couple months ago and he said that I have to tape for a year and then they will consider doing other things like Calcium injections or recrops. I just don't want to continue this madness if a recrop will just fix the problem.
I used Dr. Jezbera for the crop and he is supposed to be very good. I don't like the idea of another surgery but I can't stand a cropped ear that doesn't stand either.

Well you only have three months to go. I think you said he was nine months old. I understand he is a good cropper so just do what he says and maybe it will stand without any thing further having to be done.

My opinion is you are adding more hassle to a process that can be difficult for many people to begin with, plus I don't personally like the look of such long ears.
Handlers don't have anything to do with the dogs trim, that is handled by the breeder.
I guess someone showed up with the long trim, others liked it and it caught on. I really don't know how they got started.
