My friend is showing her corgi in Novice B at 830, and I'm worried W is going to get burnt out on the show by our ring time. I have a soft crate that i'll bring, but I'm not sure if being in his crate and away from me will be relaxing for him or stressful. Any suggestions?
A walk around the ring site early in the day before your events for a new dog settling in is always a good thing to do. (put him back in his crate until you are ready to show in your event) Staying in a crate before your events and during the show is a good habit to start. Some potty breaks, drinks will be needed also during the day.
Most dogs just snooze while in their crates. It is less stressful for them. They think of it as their safe place to be and they like to be there.
They also come to realize that when they are taken out of the crate it is fun time and off to the ring you go.
Some crates will have blankets over them. These dogs rest better without all the stimuli around them.
