Show Question -- is it possible?

Forgive me if this was already a question, or if I sound like I have no idea what I'm talking about -- I'm a new Dobe mom! I'm just wondering if there are any shows a dog can compete in if they are neutered? We haven't neutered Vito yet, but that was the plan.
Also, how to I teach my little guy to do the proper show stance?

first, have him evaluated to see if he is show quality, showing is tough! showing is intended to promote breeding stock so neutered dogs don't qualify, only at a specialty that offers an altered class.
but nothing would stop you from entering preformance sports!

The only time a spayed/neutered doberman can compete in AKC conformation is in veteran's classes (usually offered for dogs over 7 years old) at doberman specialty shows. They can't compete at all breed shows. They can't earn any points towards a championship, but sometimes can compete for Best of Breed.

There are handling classes offered by many all breed kennel clubs that can be a good place for a newbie to get started learning to show train their dog.

This is one difference between showing in AKC and CKC. The AKC doesn't have altered classes. But altered animals can compete in performance events in both countries.

Performance

Please forgive me for asking ( I know I sound clueless) -- what type of performance sports? That sounds like it would be really fun not to mention great excercise for Vito! I mean, I know there are tons of activities to do with Dobes, but not sure which are actually competition.
He is only 11 1/2 weeks old, when is it good to start training for performance?

The performance sports such as obedience, tracking, agility, flyball, herding and so forth. You can go to American Kennel Club - akc.org for some more information.

I would find a puppy class to enter him in. In our classes we teach the basics, sit, down, stand, stay, come....and have play time. The classes are very fun for both you and your dog.

I think the first thing you should do is find someplace to take him for a puppy socialization class. Look at the obedience clubs near you and find one you are comfortable with - you can go and just sit and watch (leave puppy at home for this) to see if you like it.

Taking obedience classes is a great way to have fun with your dog and it can become a great place for socializing - for both of you! If you are interested in going farther than just training and would like to show, talk to your trainer about it. Many clubs have competition obedience classes ........... and classes in agility, Rally, etc....

There are so many things you can do out there with your dog - the conformation breed ring is only one of them and is the only one where they need to be intact.
