| Z List and Confirmation Showing. I know i will be eaten alive for asking this question but this hasnt been discussed in a while, well i think it was 2006.
As we all know my dog is a z-listed doberman...she is my pet she is never being bred as i know that is wrong and not to mention the fact i dont have breeding rights nor a title nor health testing done on her.
Anyways here is my question, what is so wrong with showing a z listed dog in confirmation?
Why is it so shallow according to one person for me to want to put a confirmation title on my dog?
If i am not breeding this dog and i just want the bragging rights, what is the big deal?
I understand the point that it just perpetuates poor breeding practices and that some people will advertise that their dogs are champions so the fact that they carry the albino gene doesnt matter..or something to that degree.
So my question is it wrong to show a z-listed dog? Would it affect my chances of getting another doberman from a reputable breeder if i put a title on my z listed girl?
Thanks for the input, and i look forward to the responses. |

| I think in a way you answered your own question. Conformation titles are meant for intact dogs with the intent that they are able to get their championship and pass their correctness onto the next generation of dobes. As conformationally correct as a Z factored dobe might be- they shouldnt be bred so what is the point of getting the bragging rights when that is where it ends? If it was allowed- they WOULD be bred.. how can you guarantee they will not? Now, if there were a sep. class for spayed/neutered Z's... maybe? But perhaps the AKC and other kennel clubs just dont want to be seen as they are promoting it at all. |

| If she's worthy of the conformation ring then go for it. Not many are, especially those with the type of breeding behind them that includes the albino gene. But certainly nobody is going to stop you if you want to try. If nothing else it will be a great learning experience.

| Correct- many folks do show and don't breed- but the point is that the sole reason for dogs being intact so they can show is so that they CAN breed. Being Z factored is something the breed standard doesnt want to pass on in any shape form or fashion- or so thats what i've learned...

How could you guarantee that a z dobe that won would not be bred? How would you regulate that? How woud you prevent that titled dog from advertising their title and having a litter? you are basically suggesting that decison would be left to the owner which is not an effective control against the production of more Z's. | I can guarantee this dog wont be bred because i own her.
Z-factor is not a disqualification...no one wants it so you could argue that it should be, but as of right now. it is not a disqualification by any means. I wouldnt say that the sole reason a dog is intact to be shown is to be bred though. Look at some of the people (yes they are NOT z listed dogs) but have or are going to put titles on thier dogs, with no intentions of breeding, should they not be allowed to show because they do not want to breed? |
