Question for you experienced show folks...

I have a 4 1/2 month old male who is doing pretty well in handlng class. However, when we are out and about on his regular flat collar and lead he is becoming obnoxious with his pulling. What is the best method of stopping the pulling for a young show pup? What type of collar do you recommend? I've always used prongs in the past but not this young.

This is my first show doberman though I've owned dobes as pets for almost 20 years.

Thanks in Adance!

I use a choke chain in the ring, it is actually good in the ring if the dog leads, you don't want to be dragging the pup behind you, like a log on a chain was one description I heard. If he is doing well at handling class I wouldn't worry. I can say that when I go into a show site, I keep my guys on a very short lead! often hold the collar, they are too dog friendly and I don't want them interacting with other dogs.
good luck! are you using a handler or showing yourself.

Thank for your response.

He does pretty well on his show collar. It's walking around outside that he is pulling....especially when he sees someone or another dog.

He will be handled by his breeder. I'm just working with him to get him ready and really enjoying it

I use either a leather show collar or the parachute nylon material braided, but outside the ring I use a larger linked choke collar and keep them close. Too easy for an accident to happen.
