| We lost Nikita...
I knew it was only a matter of time, but I thought we had a few more years before we had to add Nikita. With all the issues Nikita went through the last few years, I thought we made it to a point that we can relax and enjoy the golden years. Its been only a years since her ACL surgery, which she had a decent recovery and almost 3 years from the ventral slot surgery which went as good as you can expect. She was never the same as before but she had an active good life.
She left us on Saturday, without any warning. She was fine that morning doing her normal routine of playing with Alexis and lounging around the house as we normally do on the weekends. She showed no signs of no indications if something was wrong. It was early afternoon and Mrs K got Nikita to go outside as normally she would. For some odd reason, Mrs K felt the need to go check on her a few minutes later. She found Nikita in the front yard, down in a sphinx position with her head down. She got me after that and when I checked on her, Nikita head was completely down and her body slumped in the opposite direction. Her breathing was stressed. By the time I got the truck ready to get her to the vet, she was gone. All this happened in less than a half hour.
While I am still feel so much emptiness in myself and that she took so much with her as she left, I am secretly happy that she decided to leave this way. With all the issues she had over the last few years, I thought her body would give out first before her spirit would. And I would have to make the decision for her. But she fails to surprise me up until the very end, she did it on her terms.
Granted we stopped visiting DT a few years ago, A lot of you have watched her grow up over the years, so I want thank you for letting me share her with you. I know she did provide some smiles in her videos.

I watched that video of her and your youngen, made me laugh. She was truly a sweet doberman and I think she loved that little one, she seemed to enjoy playing with her. So glad you put that up to share. You will have alot of fond memories of Nikita I am sure, but I know it doesn't help the void in your heart. She had a loving home and was very lucky for parents like you.

| so sorry for your loss. My Mysti girl went on her own terms too, in her bed where I am sure she wanted to be. She did not give me a choice to try to take her to the vet, because she knew it was time. I think Nikita felt the same, it was time. She is happy and free now, no pain no stress and you have all the wonderful memories to help you get through. Its hard, two years have not taken the loss away only made it easier to bear. RIP Nikita, you were a very pretty and happy girl.
