| New Year This is the first New Year's and Christmas since 1988 that I have not had a 4 footed child in my home. We lost our beloved Wolf in October to OSA and his diagnosis is what lead me to DT. Since 1988 we have had an Aussie/chow mix and 3 dobes. We have done most of the things that I understand to be taboo (BYB, same sex littermates) things we didn't know at the time. I will say that all 4 of our boys were basically healthy, all had long lives (9 to 11) and we had no same aggression fights. We hired a trainer that came to our home and we devoted all of our time to our furry kids and the joy they brought us can not be put into words. The holidays were extremely difficult and hardly a day has gone by since Oct that tears have not been shed. We just in the last week have finalized the last 2 headstones which has been a difficult task. I have continued to read posts on DT at least daily. I have cried for one's lost and was happy for additions to families all which is helping me thru my grief. The church sermon today was about blessings and we were asked to think about blessings in our lives. I think about much of the joy I have had over the years many of which I see discussed on this site such as the dobie smile which I miss each day I don't have that greeting when I come home. My boys was such a blessing and know the love that people on this site has for their babies and what a blessing each and everyone is. They are never with us long enough
I appreciate everyone that took the time to read my entire post and give me a place to write how much my boys meant to me and how much they are missed. I hope everyone has a great 2013 and please always be thankful for the blessing each furry family member brings to your lives and hoping not many are lost and many find forever homes during this year |

| Laurel, here is hoping for a peace and calm to rest you soul. Your loss is grieved by many. I haven't yet, but that doesn't mean that when I read these stories that I don't bawl like a baby. I do. I don't dwell on it, but I had to take that into consideration when I decided I was going to get a dog. I am partial to larger dogs so I learned their life span is shorter then small dogs. Which I did not know for years. I grieve with all of you that have lost. I'm so sorry. Hoping you year only gets better and brighter. |

| | Alpha | Laurel,
Very beautifully written. I lost my 12 year old Dobie, Rosa, in July to OSA too. This is also the first time in my life that I haven't had any pets by my side. It is sad to be without them, but I am so grateful that they were in my life for the time that we shared. I never took them for granted, and I appreciated every second I had with them. They knew they were loved very much, and so I have no regrets, just happy memories... Hopefully the new year will bring a new Dobie into my life, and I wish that much happiness to you and all DTers. |

| | Alpha | I understand how you all feel about your 4 legged family members. I have had alot of pets in my day, cats, dogs, a couple of birds, horses, the list does go on. I am fairly new to this site, don't really know anyone, other than the DT names on here, but I come to learn, and hear stories of their loved pets. There is just so much cruelty and neglect in this world that it's nice to see people who actually care and love their animals. Even though I don't know most, I come to this thread and cry for those who are hurting. I guess I feel they deserve an acknowledgement for their devotion and care given to those who have passed. You don't ever forget the ones who are gone, you just love them because they are in your memories and I think that shows what kind of human beings we are as pet owners. God bless you and keep you for loving his creatures, I hope one day the pain will go away for all those who like you Laurel and RedDogRosa still keep them in a special place. I wish everyone felt the way we do here on this site, then maybe there wouldn't be shelter dogs or any mistreated loose dogs on the streets to fend for themselves unloved.
I hope you find peace in this new year and much happiness and for all DTers. |

| Your story is so touching, my heart goes out to you for the loss of your boys. Losing these pets of ours feels like losing a piece of our soul at times and it hurts so deeply. I hope you stick with DT and we can be there with you when you decide to grow your family once again. |
