| Thank you so much, all of you.
Today is harder than yesterday. I didn't really expect that. I just had a complete breakdown because I saw the bags of his food we had stored in our basement. We expected to have him for so much longer.
Poor Porter. Not fair, buddy. Not fair. |

| I am so sorry for your loss. A seizure is a horrible event to witness. I hope those memories pass quickly. He was beautiful guy and you were blessed with 10 wonderful years may he rest in peace! |

| I am so sorry for your loss. We never have them long enough. I lost my sweet Pit Bull "Spanky" almost 5 years ago, I was on the computer looking for a Doberman the next night. I purchased my wonderful Tango a few months later and he helped fill the hole left in my heart by Spanky passing. I cannot imagine my life without dogs in it. I am one of theos people who heal faster with another pup/dog to love on. I hope your new pup helps your heart heal. |

| I lost my boy in February and said never again, but I have just seen pictures of my new boy, born last week. I felt so disloyal but a friend said that Boysie would be flattered that he had been such a good ambassador for the breed that I wanted another. It's so so hard and I am not sure how I will react when I see him in the flesh. I have a wonderful GSD but Dobermen are just so special.
Thinking of you |

| | Alpha | Gosh, I sat bawling after reading all these . I really am terribly sorry you lost Porter. I think it's really hard no matter what kind of pet we have, but dobermans are really special. Please don't beat yourself up for wanting another puppy. I think Porter would be happy that a little one found it's way into a good home filled with lots of love. He will never be replaced and he knows that, but he also knows you need the love of another and he will understand that. Rest in Peace Porter and run free at that bridge. You and your husband are in my thoughts and prayers. |

| Your feelings of wanting another Doberman are not wrong. Your heart will expand when your new Doberman arrives. Porter's place will never be taken.
Heal your heart quickly, and reflect on all the Dobermans in shelters, laying on concrete floors, looking out through a chain link fence as people pass them by. Save one (of any age) and you will be rescued.
Here is a page of our "Happy Tails" adoptions. Every one was pulled from shelters where they would have died without rescue, foster homes and adopting families. I photographed most of them, and I am always amazed by the new lease on life they've been given, and how they will make a great addition to their adoptive home. There were times I anticipated never being able to live through that pain again, and that was even before Porter passed. It's surprising to find ourselves wanting another so soon - not as a replacement to Porter, because he can never, ever be replaced, but because we still have so much love inside us and just want the joy back. We just want that funny, smart, heartwarming Doberman energy in our lives again. Is this wrong? Is this an insult to Porter? I can't help feeling - stupidly, I'm sure - that he will wonder how we moved on so quickly. |
