| My red male, Phineas, died from DCM last Wednesday. He was only three years old. His black/rust buddy, Ferb, is still looking around the house for him. I called the breeder to tell her that the disease was in her line, and she denied the possibility. My heart goes out to you. This is a terrible thing for these wonderful dogs to go through. |

| Thank you all so much for your support. It's been a lifeline for me this week. I think I might be starting to dig my way up out of the emotional pit I'd fallen into. It just breaks my heart to hear how many others here are or have been affected by this disease too. It's so tragic. At least, I had my girl until she was 9 1/2 yrs old, unlike others that have posted. I'm so sorry you have had to suffer too. I wouldn't wish this pain and grief on anyone. Now, I'm petrified her son Tsavo may be affected too. I get him checked regularly but there are no guarantees there. I got Kenya checked all the time too and it didn't matter in the end.
It's like there is this gaping void in our home without her. Tsavo looks up at me with such sadness and confusion in his eyes. It's heart-wrenching and there is nothing I can say or do to make things right for him except pat and hug him.
I wake up in the morning and she's not there vibrating her whole rear end in excitement that I am awake. I go outside to play ball with Tsavo or do yardwork and come across one of her paw prints in the wet earth and everything crashes down on me again. I pull into the driveway and she's not racing back and forth at the fence vibrating in excitement because I'm home. I look over at the empty spot on the loveseat where she should be and the tears well up again. I turn on the fireplace and am catapulted back to our last few moments cuddled up together there right before she passed. Worst of all, when I go to bed at night to try get some sleep, she's not there to kiss me good night. That was one of the sweetest quirks she had. When we went to bed, she would go to her dad's side first and kiss him goodnight, then come to my side to kiss me before she settled in her own bed for the night.
My sweet girl, what I wouldn't give for just one more of your goodnight kisses. Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |

| I also lost my Diablo to DCM, over 20 years ago. It is a very painful loss, - He was a quiet, loveable, lanky goofball, he was my first Dobie rescue. Go ahead and distract yourself, when you feel the need to take a break. It can be an intense emotional process. I know he was special, he knew he was special, they do know. |
