Oh my god, I am so sorry to hear this Larry. I've been on DT hiatus for a little while and just saw this. It was so obvious that you and Amy had a very special bond. I think that Amy had the most amazing and loving life. I hope that you and another baby dobe are blessed with each other soon. Grieve well.

Just wanted to give my condolences. She lived a full life for a Dobermann, hell for any dog- my GSD only made it to 12. It's tough to loose them no matter how long they are with us.

From your posts its been obvious that you and her were very close. If there is a Rainbow Bridge somewhere, I know she's waiting patiently on the other side.

Dear old Amy's cremation is coming up to a year ago (in a few months time), she passed end of last August.
I still miss this real heart-dog...but today, I felt the extreme heart-break again.
- just recapped one of her puppy stories, minutes ago (copy below)...and I quickly broke down again (bad)...sharing an old thoughtful memory

Luckily, puppy Kelly was what I needed, I can never go dober-less...she has filled a very big void...& will I love and protect puppy always, with my life.
- sorry for the rant, old memories are still crystal clear & it is my honor to still repay Amy with much loving respect...even if only in words now
Is funny, my first dobe Tanya (1977) help me understand Amy training (2000) and now Kelly training (2012) has been greatly influence by the skill set I gained, from our beloved first two girls.
- our old dogs, always life on...as sharing loyal family love, has taught this Dad very much

A decade ago:
My 9 month old puppy was being cornered in a fence line, by 2 BYB-GSD garage/security dogs....owner left the back gate open, that business morning.
- I got my Amy immediately behind me and offered the aggressive dog pair my forearm to bite on...putting myself in real danger
- I was expecting to spread the front legs on one attacking dog (break the heart, kind of) and hoping to get to the second one next...before my young Amy was hurt (I was fighting to protect family, and my injured physical consequences was of little importance to me (that exact moment)

I quickly, went on the attack, with much internal confidence...funny thing was: "I wasn't even really scared"...but project a confident win, in the end.
Guess what, I submissed the 2 dogs, with my positive stance & verbal lashing on them...I'm not backing down ever, for a loved one....2 legged or 4.
- a week later, I am back at the garage, one GSD is under the office desk...I reach down to pet it / owner said NO, that dog will bite you
(yea right I thought...lol...he didn't even know, I now owned the pair mentally)

Amy was very special. One of my first visits to DT included watching your video of her walking off-leash. She will always hold a place in all our hearts.
I'm so glad Kelly has found you...she will carry on Amy's legacy with every moment of love and care you invest in her.
Hugz to you both.

millerdobes & dobedream - thks for your very nice kindness...understanding her time was up, just never easy....time heals (they say), but never 100%.
- since I have a ton of posts, I wrote this even earlier this morning...and it got me balling & thinking out loud...with Kelly by my side & comforting me
But I don't want to loose the real message...doggy lifestyle & training, that made her uniquely ours and the new girl to !!
(moulded with loving bond & trust)

Attention on her, was exhausting initially:
- but real good house manners came to be, quick enough
- in fact Kelly (5 months old) could be left unsupervised for a full hour or left in Dads vehicle (at Home Depot), without a problem

I don't want to have to crate a puppy when it has bad manners around me (my pups are never crated if someone is home)...I can't fix what I can't see...I don't want pup destroying bedding in cage either and learning bad habits for even more than 5-10 seconds / then its 10x harder to solve.
- so I bite the bullet, and supervise every minute of the day (at the start)
- train soft bite/muzzle control help pup know there is rules on mouthing....and what its teeth can & cannot do, given our expectations
- tennis balls are never allowed to be defelted
- stuffies are never allowed to be destroyed, toys have to be respected some
- a good marrow bone will buy you 3-4 or maybe several hours of peace

^^^^ Doing the above, the house furniture like our pillows on the couch, coffee table legs, antique spinning wheel wooden spindles, computer wires, etc...all become clearly off limits, early on - our last girl a decade ago, could be left alone at 4.5 months young....so I know full pup supervision works.

"Time heals" is a bunch of malarkey. 7 months since we lost our Porter and I still cry.

I don't "know" you, but I admire and respect you for the love that you give to your furbabies. I reckon Amy had one of the best lives a pup could have, and I'm sure Kelly will too. You're a good DoberDad.

Dear old Amy will have passed, exactly 1 year ago, at the end of this August 2013.
- I will never have full closure, but our beautiful young Kelly is filling our family hearts & keeps us on our toes
We have had dober girls since 1977, picked up our first baby with 1 week of marriage under our belts...it was the best way, to start a family.
- 3 female puppies to date, and all very different / we have been blessed with breeder selection
- we always got the one we needed, at the time

Today, I am documenting some old Amy stores, its very important to me...treasuring the past:
- to honor and pay more respect to my girl, that never wanted to leave me, even paralysed in her last several hours
On August 31st, I will share an annual tribute to my sweet-pea & best buddy...here on her life-after-thread !!

^^^^ Thks. for your sweetness, your typed words meant a lot to me...as we all have felt immeasurable heart-ache, from losing our family dobe(s).
- like many here in DT land, my girls are treated as family equals
- and mom & dad, should NEVER have to ever bury their child, 2 legged or 4

b) pet & love your Marley

Our former Amy was calm & mellow, she did Therapy work in a nursing home (which she loved) and we also visited a terminal ward hospital for seniors.
- the hospital setting was more difficult for the dog to engage with the sick, because of the bed rails
- she could only poke her nose through the bed bars there...often family visiting had more fun with our dobe
- the nursing home people were often in lazy-boy chairs (which was perfect), so our girl could snuggle up close with them
She was such a big hit, that one fellow at 95 y/o would steal cookies out of the kitchen, on Amy's visit days.
- they ALL loved her so much, that when it was the other little dogs scheduled time to visit, many of the seniors would ask "were is the big/black dog"
No one cared, she was a Doberman, not one person ever....one photo in my DT sig. below.

(so his fingers, would not tough those K9`s)
Arrowroot cookie time...Amy likes this volunteer work...but this man, ain't breaking them up fast enough...(lol):

This nice lady was 89 y/o, and Amy really loved her the very first time visiting, as dober-girl immediately sat on the top of her both feet/slippers.
- elder lady says, "what is she doing ??"...my first reaction was to ask: "is she hurting you" & the quick answer was "NO"...from her

I then said, "Amy girl simply LOVES YOU (extra), so she is trapping you from leaving your chair and going away from her"...she is keeping tabs on you
I will never forget her next response: "dear Amy can sit on me, any time she wants" !!

Thanks for sharing Amy's stories. As the time draws near for anniversaries, I always find it comforting to reflect.

Yep, it's been almost 5 yrs since I lost my heart dog, Quin (well first heart dog, Bruce is proving to be another one ), and I still cry if I talk about/think about Quin too much.

Beaumont, What a lovely tribute to Amy, I'm sure she's watching over you and, wagging her nub.

On the eve of AMY's passing (1 year ago, tomorrow), its my pleasure to scan & post her youngest picture.
- Francoise from Fabert Dobermans (Montreal, Quebec) knew young Amy was a perfect fit, for our family
(we cannot thank her enough, in selecting our family, as puppies forever care giver)

Above all, Amy taught this Dad, that dogs are our equals, and are treated as such...24/7.
- she was most wise and her command of our English sentences, gave her a humanized presence...that was unreal and a treat to experience
Such a hard one to let go, in old age - truly a friend & heart-dober for life !!
- our baby girl is now our angel, still looking over us

Our earliest photo of dear AMY - 6.5 weeks young...always loved puppy milk bellies...:

A fun weekend adventure with AMY (in mid-life), to share:

Former Amy was another LOVER, of belly rubs / but YOU will never guess, how it started ??
- she was about 5 y/o and we got invited to cottage country (Muskoka Lakes)...5 hour drive North
- family long weekend, late fall with roasted turkey for Thanksgiving, w/bird dressing...yum/yum
- and all the fix-ins with cranberry sauce, fresh veggies & gatden potatoes

As 2 families (enjoying each others great company), we walked the nearby woods, Amy was in heaven off-leash & exploring.
- we picked up 3-4 rocks, indigenous to the area / for our city flower garden
The family friends w/the cottage were dober lovers, their last red girl lived to 12 y/o (Simba)

On our weekend on the lake, below is what the men indulged in:
What Do You Call Beer Mixed with Tomato Juice or Mott's Clamato ?
- What they call beer mixed with tomato juice is a beer cocktail or a Beer Bloody Mary. The drink consists of beer, tomato juice, and half and half. You can add a little dash of Tabasco and Worcestershire. There are other beer cocktails using different mixers.

After a full suppy meal with bloated bellies, watched a little TV and settled into the spare bedroom.
#1 Problem was, for the first time in Amy's life, mom & dad and girl was facing bunk beds.
- mattress width clearly not big enough for all 3 of us & Amy had NEVER slept without both of us before
- no way dear Amy could climb up onto the top bunk (up ladder), so this Dad graciously volunteered to stay on floor level. with dober-girl
- "ASA" she jumped into the lower bed with her Dad, with Mom overtop of us...I knew she knew something was not right & anxiety might set in next

^^^^ What to do now, Dad asked himself quickly ??
I slid my fingertips down on girls soft belly and caressed her sound to sleep, in record time...without a peep (like 10 minutes, in a strange bed)
From our 1st vacation night, Amy was spoiled for life....(with Dad's nightly help)
- over the next several years, Amy always enjoyed belly rubs...minutes before she fell asleep...on the master bed
Nightly belly rubs, became our sacred ritual from that one night, sleeping in the cottage....best/"bad habit", I ever taught one of my dober girls.

I'm sure lovely Amy will pause tomorrow and smile, knowing that the family she loved is keeping her memory close -- and knowing that you're in good hands with Miss Kelly.

It has been 18 months since I lost my heart dog Boysie and I miss him every day. What is it about a Doberman that makes them so very special? I have a new best friend Mister Parker and he is helping to heal me.
Thinking of you.

^^^^ At our ongoing reno. home project, and Kelly puppy always with her Dad daily & the usual carpenter paid me a huge dober complement today:
"she's got the whine, like Amy"

Thanks with a BIG HEART FELT APPRECIATION, for those that commented here...it meant a lot.
- taking the time to cheer me up, even though we can't bring them back...memories do need to live, afterall

Upon Amy's death, 1.5 months later, we had found & secured our next baby girl...from IL.
- the litter was only a few days old, when wee Kelly was ordered
An amazing time in a dober-journey, but leading up to our new born, was very difficult for me.
- the grief & constant morning (on our family loss) was hard to bear

The following picture, is my mint unrestored 1920's Northern telephone (in working condition, ringer still works):
- bought it 20 years ago, only when Amy passed, did I pull the antique out of my garage storage & build her a "wall of respect / memorial"
(had the old phone & flag stone brick end wall installed, in our retirement home renovation)

For 2 months straight, I called my former dobes at the rainbow bridge (Tanya & Amy) - helped me to heal:
- on my private direct vintage land line to doggy heaven (2 long & 2 short....ring/ring...LOL)

Some things need to be said (in my mind) and I don't want to loose this below post content.
BTW - Christmas Eve here [in retrospect]...I was staying up late, that night / just on the computer & watching TV.
@ +11:30 pm (that night) I suddenly broke down & cried (without warning)...another holiday without my old girl....REALIZED.
- quickly my tears turned into honoring her thoughts (over & over memories)
- thinking of Amy's amazing long life & her stories, sharing her love and FUN stories posted on DT
I've learned this GIFT after her loss - RECOVERY is all how we frame the troubling/quick moment(s) in time.
Plus properly moving on (as she would of naturally wished me) for her loving Dad !!

Cesar Productions was much better than the Canadian version of dog training via. the idiot Brad Paterson, which didn't even have entertainment value.
- I watched the show years before joining this forum, and DT members have been good at sharing newer training methods
- so after a while of watching, the show grew old quickly enough

I always let my dogs go out the house door first or up the steps first, if they want to...doesn't mean I'm giving up an once of leadership....my girls would never sleep downstairs alone BTW.
- under his logic, the owner should enter the car first...but than how does one put the dog in (LOL)

I saw the 4 year old doberman TV show - that got removed from the master bed, for the new born baby...like they can't both co-exist (BS I say).
- this made me mad, about the time I stopped tuning in to the show

Elza - you girl forgives her mom, don't beat you self up...water under the bridge !!
I believe some dogs are huminized and truly they have emotions.
Once I got mad at puppy Amy, and she left the living room and lay'ed in the kitchen.
- she thought, screw you Dad if your not going to be nice...and a light bulb went off in my head...I got it, in a split second
So off to the kitchen I went to get my baby girl and hugged and kissed the crap out of her, plus I apologized to her.
She felt it (my sorrow)...and this Dad was truly forgiven.
- she showed me the compassionate side of training, one day and I will be forever grateful
If Amy needed a minor correction, I use to tap the top of her nose with one finger...so very lightly...and tell her in a kind voice, "your a no-good girly"...while I ended up laughing at her...and she got excited in learning new things.
She learned at a phenomenal pace and if I didn't know better, "I was trained by my own dog"...once upon a time !!

Fortheloveofadoberman ^^^^ Thank YOU friend - my tears are no longer filled with anger / just warm tears, run down my cheeks occasionally.
- out of mutual respect & love, for "2 like peas in a pod"...we really did support each other

Took me longer than normal (this time), to get to this realization point !!
Now my heart is HEALED (as best as can be) & filled with happiness, thinking of our LIFE & last care-giving day together.
- she knew to hang on (long enough), for proper family goodbyes / that was always one gift I whispered in her ear, every senior night time
