Communication with your deceased Pet?

We are grieving Isis death heavily.....each place I look, I should see her there.....and I just long to touch her and kiss her sweet face.

Question: after losing your pet, have any of you experienced a spiritual connection or form of communication with your deceased dog? We have had a few surreal experiences since Isis died....and we are beginning to think we have both lost it...either that or we need more drugs.....(J/K///LOL)

Yes, many times. Either the other pets would be laying around then suddenly just start staring at the ceiling. With Sarah, I kept having dreams of holding a big, fat black dobie girl in my arms - I always felt like she was trying to tell me she will be back again one day as another girl that I will have.

Margie, my heart just breaks for you. NO, YOU ARE NOT LOSING IT NOR DO YOU NEED DRUGS! Now some might think I am crazy after this post but I'd like to share a story with you. 5 1/2 years ago I lost "Astra", my 14 y/o MB rather unexpectedly. To say that I was devestated would be an understatement and unfortunately, I remember everything as though it happened yesterday. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about her. She was the daughter I never had and I loved her more than words can express. She was LOVED by the entire family but she was MY dog. When she 1st passed I would swear that I would hear her breathing in the middle of the night or hear her footsteps- it was like I would forget that she was gone- I too thought that I was going "crazy". I would talk to her all of the time (and to this day I tell her I love her every single night before I fall asleep). Anyway, here is the happy part of the story. NEVER did I want or think that she could be replaced with any other dog. Quigley came into our lives but he was the boys dog- don't get me wrong- I love him to pieces- but he wasn't going to be the one to fill the huge hole that her passing left in my heart. For 4 years Quigley was our only dog. I cannot tell you how many dogs I considered over those 4 years, but there were MANY- for whatever the reason, my heart was telling me to wait. And then I saw Kinder, my Rough Tri-color Collie. I can't explain it, but from the moment I saw her pic, it was like she spoke to me. I won't go into the details, but I will say that she was in a bad way and in dire need of help. Lets just say that the rest is history! Margie, I swear that Kinder is Astra reincarnated. PLEASE DON'T THINK THAT I AM IN NEED OF A RUBBER ROOM! Whe I tell you that she is EXACTLY like Astra in EVERY WAY you could take that as gospel. It is like Astra is here with me again and it is truly AMAZING! My husband even says it. I can't expalin it and in all the years that I have had dogs I have NEVER experienced anything like this. I could go on and on but I want to assure you that YOU ARE NOT CRAZY. I know EXACTLY what you are going through and I am SO SORRY but don't be afraid of what you are experiencing- CHERISH IT. Call me crazy, but I believe in angels and I think Isis may be trying to help you get through this by telling you she will ALWAYS be a part of your life. HANG IN THERE MARGIE

You're not going crazy....

... Ilsa comes to visit sometimes in dreams. Other times, I think I see her out of the corner of my eye. I learned not to turn my head to see her more clearly, because she'd never be there when I did. This sounds hokey, but sometimes I hear her whine - she was a huge whiner. None of my current dogs are whiners, and the whine I hear never seems to be coming from where my current dogs are camped out.

So no... you're not crazy.

Oddly enough, their birthdates are both in February - Ilsa's was Feb 7th, Kaylee's is Feb 20th. Ilsa died on Feb 6th.

Another weird date thing... Ilsa came home on Easter. Ronin got his ALCH title on Easter. I promised him he'd be done competing once he got his ALCH... and it's odd that he officially retired from any and all show rings eight years to the day that Ilsa came into my life.

Anyway, I'm rambling.

I see, faintly, from time to time my darling girl Shelley that went to heaven last year.

She was my best girl for 17 years and lives alongside me, still.

I talk to her. I show her things. I hear her breathe and hear the weight of her on our deck from time to time.

She was a gentle quiet and non-demanding soul, unlike my spitfire, Bella and her sweet spirit is all over our property and our house.

Love never dies. That's what I believe, it just changes form.

It's o.k. Margie. I think it's probably pretty normal for folks who have loved deeply.

There is no way I could ever, really say good-bye to a creature I shared so much love and time with. One third of my life.

It's not possible that, that just goes away. Nope. Won't believe that for one second.

You are very lucky to experience these occurences or encounters. I only wish I could. Though I miss my beloved Bacchus and think of him every day, I have not seen him, or felt him, or dream about him. I can't understand it. I did have an experience once quite a while ago after losing my first doberman, Zeus. I was lying on the couch with Bacchus. I very distinctly heard a noise upstairs in the bedroom. Without a question of a doubt it was the sound of a dog jumping off the bed. A sound I remember hearing it all the time. Bacchus jumped up and was barking like crazy because he heard it too. I'm sure it was Zeus. Unfortunately, that was my only experience. So I say, you are not losing it....you are blessed.

Oh yes Margie!!! Isis is your heart dog. She will never leave you.

My heart dog died over 20 years ago, but she is still with me, always!

THE BEST PLACE TO BURY A DOG

"There is one best place to bury a dog.
"If you bury him in this spot, he will
come to you when you call - come to you
over the grim, dim frontier of death,
and down the well-remembered path,
and to your side again.

"And though you call a dozen living
dogs to heel, they shall not growl at
him, nor resent his coming,
for he belongs there.

"People may scoff at you, who see
no lightest blade of grass bent by his
footfall, who hear no whimper, people
who may never really have had a dog.
Smile at them, for you shall know
something that is hidden from them,
and which is well worth the knowing.

"The one best place to bury a good
dog is in the heart of his master."

You are not crazy, I Know My Fever is with me everyday. 2 days after he passed I was in a store looking around trying to take my mind off my grief. I saw some necklaces ,started to look .. One I liked was tangled up with a few others so I untangled them and the one left in my hand was the one i WAS NOT looking for. I opened my hand and it was a one letter charm on it. Guess what the letter was??? Yep an F ! I'm sure that was Fever giving me a sign that he was right there with me ;-) another time in a store( I know i shop way too much) and looking at clothes. .. WELL out of the corner of my eye I saw a BRIGHT YELLOW shirt , I looked up at it and it had writing on it???? Guess what was written?? FEVER ! they were the only shirts there with writing... again another sign . I smiled and said to myself "I know your here my boy" and Bought the shirt ;-)

Another story a freind told me that just lost her girl a couple of weeks ago at only 5 1/2 (Cancer) she was commiing home from picking up her ashes and as she got closer to her house she could see alot of people on her street? taking pictures ,cars stopped, News crew there? as she got closer she could see a HUGE rainbow going across the street, do you know where the rainbow ended?? yep! right on her front lawn! she called me to tell me and she couldnt belive of all places.. I said that was your girl showing you she's crossed the rainbow bridge. She replied "Your right I never thought of that" she started to cry.

So see Margie you are not crazy or alone ;-)

Ps Tomorrow would have been my boys 11th b-day- Happy b-day my sweet boy I love and still miss you everyday.

Pam and I both heard Finley's one-of-a-kind booming bark several times after we lost him, but then it stopped.
We find ourselves noticing things our other dogs now do that only Sterling used to do, and we always get excited about it.

My first boy died one day after he had surgery. I went to see him that day and he didn't look very good but I never thought he would die that evening. The house was quiet, my boys were sleeping and I was in my room. That's when I heard him in the kitchen, he wore his collar in the house and I heard his tags. I ran down to the kitchen like a fool and I lost it.

Prince died in August he was five. He would sleep with me every night and he had a habit of jumping on my bed and flopping himself down. We put him to sleep on Sat and I was alone. I went to bed and couldn't sleep, I was sitting on my bed watching TV and I felt him jump on my bed and flop himself down. He was a special boy and I miss him a lot.

Well, if you're crazy for this, a lot of people are.

I lost the feline love of my life in 2006. After he passed, I'd wake up to his scent, feel him purring when I was half-asleep, and feel kitty footsteps on my bed.

Shortly thereafter, those incidents stopped, and I developed an unforeseen, unexpected desire for a puppy. And shortly after that, I became fixated on Dobermans. It's not my time yet to have one, and when it is, I will love it no matter what. I'm just waiting and learning now. But I feel it's possible I have been led in this direction by him.

I would like to suggest a wonderful book which discusses the feelings, phenomena, and spiritual issues involved with a beloved pet's death, as well as other stories like the ones that have been posted. It helped me cope and feel as if things might not be so terribly final. The book is called "Animals and the Afterlife" by Kim Sheridan, and there are several others on Amazon, similar in nature, that may help. Good luck and peace.

I don't know about "communication" but I dream about Charlie a lot. One night after he was pts, I dreamed that I came home and there were all these people in my house, including the vet. I walked in, kinda "what's going on?" and the vet turned to me, said there'd been a mistake and Charlie had come alive again so they'd brought him back. Then Charlie walked out from behind the easy-chair with this "surprise!!!" expression on his face.

I "see" him all the time, especially in our park. It's like I have two sorts of vision: one that sees the world as it is and one that sees him there too. I see the bit with all the molehills and no Charlie; and I see Charlie digging into those molehills.

I guess the strangest event was two days after he'd gone, when a big young red Dobe bounded up to me in our park, nuzzled my hand and bounded off again. Never seen him before or since but he appeared out of nowhere and passed on a bit of that great Dobe love when I desperately needed it

O this has made me cry now!

Again, so very sorry for your loss of Isis. She will be in your heart and mind forever. This a nice web site that helped me through the loss of Lonesome and Dax: Welcome to Rainbows Bridge

If you are crazy then so am I. For the longest time I would see my last girl (RIP Gwen) out of the corner of my eye as she passed me. I would hear her coming up the stairs. I swore I felt her jump into bed on several occasions. When I dream of her she talks to me. This still happens, especially if I am stressed about something, she has been gone for 4 1/2 years now. I always feel better after I talk to her. I always talk to my dogs anyway, so I guess it feels natural that she would talk to me like I did her. I think the bonds we share with them are so close the ties are never truly broken. We grieve so deeply I think it's their way of telling us they are still with us .
So take comfort that Isis is close by and wants you to know that, she is pain free now and will be waiting when you and your husband cross the bridge.

THE BEST PLACE TO BURY A DOG

"If you bury him in this spot, he will
come to you when you call - come to you
over the grim, dim frontier of death,
and down the well-remembered path,
and to your side again.

"And though you call a dozen living
dogs to heel, they shall not growl at
him, nor resent his coming,
for he belongs there.

"People may scoff at you, who see
no lightest blade of grass bent by his
footfall, who hear no whimper, people
who may never really have had a dog.
Smile at them, for you shall know
something that is hidden from them,
and which is well worth the knowing.

"The one best place to bury a good
dog is in the heart of his master."
Thanks DLS, you have me sobbing. But that is truly a beautiful poem, thanks for sharing.

Your not crazy. There are times, when eveything is really quiet and still, I swear I hear Emma's bark and howl. I know its her because there are no other dogs around and its HER bark and howl

Oh no you are not crazy.
One night after Bekky left us, I heard her medallions and her color cling. It's hanging at her room (lower level). There was no wind or vibration to cause it.
She also visits me at my sleep from time to time. Actually the last time was at the weekend when my future puppy was born. We have been waiting for a puppy for a while now, and that night she (Bekky) called me outside to play with her. When I woke up, the first thing I said to my husband that the puppies are born, and we should call our breeder to confirm. I know that she is watching out over us.
Also I hope she would not whisper to the new puppy ear all the bad tricks...lol
My husband said that he could hear her some times (she was his girl)

Magie, you'll be in touch with Isis. I am still in touch with Tim, I see him around, I hear his whine while opening door when I'm coming back home , I see him in dreams when I kiss ,hug and pat him. He is looking good, happy and healthy, not with a bloody tumor covering his left eye,not in pain like it was last 2 month of his physical life. I saw him last night ...He knows he would never be replaced ...

I have a friend who believes that when you dream of a deceased relative, friend or pet that they are "visiting". I think it's a nice belief so decided to join her.

I've only had one dream of Rocket since he passed last August but my God, it was so real. In the dream, I went to let Kizzy out and Rocket was just standing there outside the door. I ran outside and fell to my knees and he was in my arms and he was well again. I was crying and I was squealing to my husband "He's here, he's here, do you see him? Can you see him?" I was talking so loud and crying so hard that I woke myself up, and I was disappointed to not get to spend more time with him. But it was lovely while it lasted and I hope to have him visit again.

I've heard it said that energy is never destroyed, it just goes somewhere else. I like to believe that, and I'm in no way religious.

I've also seen people say that your dog comes back to you. I'd like to believe that too.
Once in a great while I'll call Nina by my 1st dog's name, just to see her reaction.

Nina was not planned, I went to the rescue because there was a doppleganger of my 1st dog, we were about to leave when she & her brother glued themselves to us.

I can't help but wonder...

I rarely read rainbow bridge, not that I'm not sympathetic but it tears me up & leaves me speechless, as I didn't have the privilege of saying goodbye to my heart dog as so many here have.

But I bleed inside for all who've lost these beloved friends.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my heart dog, a GSD named Mac, in 2008. I begged him to come back to me before he was put to sleep, and so I was really disillusioned and upset that I hadn't heard from him. I was telling this to my fiance one day, crying about a story I read in which a woman who lost her son always found pennies with his birth year on them. I was bawling about wanting pennies from Mac when the laundry machine timer went off, and we got up to get the laundry. On the lip of the washing machine was a penny, lying face up with his birth year on it. If that's not a sign, I don't know what is!

I also had a dream that I woke up and Mac was lying next to me in bed. I happily hugged and kissed him, and petted him all over. In the dream I kept stopping myself to make sure it was real, and Mac told me that it was. It was the most realistic dream. When I woke up, I knew he visited me.

Isis will send you a sign. Hang in there, I know it's so hard.

nope not crazy at all
and DLS? I am now a sobbing pathetic mess yet again sitting at my computer. Thank dog my beloved understands...
it's been just over a month since Tucker left us. I KNOW he's still here though - I can feel him behind me, I can hear him patrolling the house at night, I know he's at the foot of my bed when I go to sleep.
More than that I know he's telling me it's time to go help another dobe in need....
