This is a really old loss (as in 17 years ago, perhaps a little more), I was so young I could hardly remember him, but I know it's a loss that really affected my family. I was only a few months old at the time, my brother 4 or 5- they were best friends, naturally, as puppy and boys will be. He was a gorgeous red/rust male, and my dad owned both of his parents (Princess and West). The dogs all had great homes, there were 12 Dobermans all together. Princess and West were the originals, and the other 9 pups were adopted out to good homes.
Ubu was named such because when he was 8 days old, he bit like a Gator. And then when he got to be a bit older, the end of a show came up on t.v. (you may remember it, Ubu Productions played it at the end of their shows- "Sit, Ubu, sit! ...Good dog!"). He sat when he was told to sit. So from that day forward, his name was Ubu Gator. I'm sure he's no longer in this world but unfortunately, we won't ever know.
He was stolen from us when he was 5. He was, however, an amazing dog- my parents speak fondly of him, the pictures we had of him were absolutely hilarious (my 5yo brother riding him through sprinklers come to mind), and I thought this would be my little way of remembering what I can of Ubu. He's the reason our family adores Dobermans so greatly, and he won't ever be forgotten- even by me, the one who never truly got to know him!
I'd post pictures, but unfortunately we have no scanner.
