| Growth Chart of Puppy - Weight and Height? Hola all,
In my anticipation of my puppy - three LONG months to go I'm wondering what the average/approximate weight of a healthy, normal (as can be), Dobie at 3 months, 4, 5, 6, etc, is. Assuming that it has its proper daily exercise, training, play-time, good meals.
From some pictures I've seen, some Dobies at 4 months old look almost like an adult! Just how heavy are they then?
I ask because I'd like to plan its diet, size of crate, bed...
Thanks!
[Addendum: Pictures of your dogs at 3 months and above are MUCH appreciated!] |

| Bailey turned 5 months last week and weighed in at 18kg (40 lbs) and measured about 22inches to the top of his shoulders. Looking at breed averages he's got about 4 or 5 inches to grow an he'll just about double in weight |

| This is what I have learned about Doberman growth over the last year:
Most puppies tend to weigh about:
2 months~20 pounds
3 months~30 pounds
4 months~40 pounds
5 months~50 pounds
6 months~60 pounds
Give or take up to 10 pounds on either side.
Then after that....some bigger males will continue to grow at the same rate for a few more months, while females that are going to be average size tend to really slow down almost to a stop, as they hit their first heat. Average male is somewhere around 85 pounds give or take 10 and female is 65 give or take 5-10 pounds. Some pups have all their height by about 9 months old, others continue to grow until 18 months old. There is no set in stone rule as to how a Doberman puppy will grow. If the puppy is fed a good quality diet, exercised properly...it will reach the adult size that is preprogrammed in its genes. Feeding it more will not make a bigger Doberman, it will make a fat one.
Lines grow differently and the best person to ask how your puppy to be, will grow is your breeder!

| Thanks for this thread! I have always been interested in average growth of a Dobie puppy and could never find any chart to help me see how we are doing. So far, Sweep weighs 20.4 pounds at 12 weeks and is 16" tall at the withers [as close as I could see on the tape]. Her Mother is on the smaller side so I am curious to see what she will grow out too.

| At 5 months old, Risa was 49.8 or 49.9 lbs and was just under 23 inches... She was very, very close to 23 inches. Her breeder said she's had dogs stop growing at six months (in height - this was an exception for her) and others that kept growing after a year!

| That's the same info my breeder gave me. 2 months 20 lbs and then 10 lbs per month after that.
I love seeing all the photos of the puppies. Leo is such a handsome, sleek looking boy. Can't wait to see new shots of Xasper.

Really trying hard to fatten him up now as he's quite tall but too skinny. | You really need to get this dog to the vet to find out why he is not utilizing his food. I know you feed enough food. If you can see a spine and hip bones, something is wrong with his digestion. |

| One kilogram is equivalent to 1,000 grams or 2.2 pounds so I would say that 14 week old Xasper weighs about 32. 5 pounds.

Sweep will be three months old on the 23rd of January [next Wednesday] and she is under 30 pounds so she is on the low side of the scale. Be curious to see if there is a catch up time or whether she is going to be smaller. My other CARA Dobe, Kira, was 25.5" tall and never weighed over 65 pounds. She was not thin, but she was extremely muscled! This photo was taken just before she left me to cross the bridge.

trust me, this is something that i had to come to terms with since Lexx has been a slow grower since the start. its better to stop worrying about it and just let them grow as they will |

| I was told that after the first 2-3 months, 8 pounds per month is more realistic. Maybe someone who has had lots of litters could chime in.
My girl matured really fast and reached full height at about 10 months, and had all her weight except about 5 pounds by then. She is now 26" and 65 pounds at 15 months. |

| | Alpha | Remember she had a rough start, when a dog has worms and other parasites they do not utilize thier food as well. Larger litters are often smaller pups until weaned and on thier own good food. I dont know how good the food he fed his bitch is, how well she nursed, if he supplemented pups with food or formula if she was low on milk but from what you have said I doubt he supplemented. The food he fed her created the milk she gave them and has a direct effect on the pups.
Once she is wormed and on a good food you may be suprised as she starts growth spurts. Weight charts can be deceptive, smaller boned dogs weigh less than larger heavier boned dogs and males more than females. As a pet I would be concerned about keeping her on a good food that she does well on, not all dogs do good on all foods even if they are considered a good food. As long as she has good body weight for her size the rest is up to her genetics. Did you see her parents?
Lestat reacted to the vaccines with lumps as well. It isnt really a big deal unless the immune system forgets to turn itself off then autoimmune issues can develop. I had one of my ferrets react to a vaccine and we always wait at the vet for 30mins after the last ones shot (I took 3 in for shots that day), just in case with ferrets. His reaction was almost an hour after the shot, blood shooting from both ends, I found out I could make the 20 minute drive back to my vets in 11. They were waiting when I walked in the door (thank goodness for cell phones) and we still almost lost him. He never got another shot. It was the distemper also, with ferrets you never give more than one shot at a time so you know what they react to.
I would ask the vet about pretreating her with benadryl liquid, some prefer to give it as a shot. Make sure you remind them before every shot that she has reacted and get directions to predose benadryl. Also massaging the injection site after shots helps to disperse the vaccine and avoid it being trapped in a pocket. Quote:

I have also discovered that she looks much bigger and older in pictures than she does in person, so if a dog in a photograph looks really big to you it may not actually be the case. You would have to see a 4 or 5 month old next to an adult dobe in the photo to really see this. Just a tidbit of info. |
