| 7 months and FINALLY sleeping all night! (lots of pics) Brinks turned 7 months old on Jan 6. She weighed 54 lbs and measured 25" at the shoulder....as best as we could measure! She is our little shadow. She loves working on training and going to agility! She loves her trainer and she loves to look at the trainers dobes, too! This month, our goal is to finally work out the last of her skin issues. Her skin infection is back so we are taking her to a specialist next week.
Our biggest accomplishment this last month is Brinks is FINALLY sleeping through the night! I know that probably sounds crazy to most of you but since she came home at 6.5 weeks, I have been getting up at least once a night to let her out! At first it was because she was so little, and then she got a series of UTIs. The UTIs meant we were getting up often to let her out, which lead to some bad habits. But finally, for the last week, she has slept through the night with no problems! YAY!
Here's some of my favorite pictures from the last month!
"Dad, my toys are under there! Get them!"
Playing Xbox with Dad
"I said cover me up...this is not what I meant. Now stop laughing!"
Checking in on the "old lady" greyhounds, Belle, red, 8, and Mesa, black, 9. They like to sleep all day. Brinks thinks they are boooooring!
Hanging out with my parents 2 year old husky, Koda, while my parents were in FL for 10 days
Our 50 lbs lap dog...
Modeling her bandana that our friends brought back from Vegas for her!
And some snuggle time! She loves her daddy! |

| She had what the vets suspected was a staph infection. Six weeks on a high dose of antibiotics and multiple medicated shampoos didn't get rid of it. The vet we are currently at doesn't really know what else to do and she's been on antibiotics so much that it caused all kinds of other problems. Between the skin infections and UTIs, she's been on antibiotics for like a total of 3 months, since she was 2 months old. Plus topicals for eye infections. I'm done with just guessing and throwing antibiotics at problems. We're headed to someone who can hopefully get to the bottom of the problem for Brinks! She's such a perfect, happy girl! I just want her to be healthy now, too! We've slowly been figuring out one problem at a time (allergies, sensitivities, infections, etc.), so I'm hopeful that we will be able to figure out this one too! |

| What a pretty girl. I love the pictures, especially the snuggling with dad one. Good luck with the skin issues. I had similar problems with Thor a couple of years ago. Antibiotics didn't help, skin scrapes and even a punch biopsy showed nothing and he kept loosing hair and where it was shaved it didn't grow back. We never did quite figure out what the real culprit was and I researched for months. Eventually one pathologist my vet consulted suggested even so the slide didn't show anything it could be sarcoptic mites since he is a Doberman. So my vet had me treat him with 3 doses of Frontline Plus in 2 weeks interval. I also added melatonin, Vitamin A, E and Zinc to his daily routine. His skin cleared up and his hair grew back thicker than ever. I still give him the vitamins.

We're hoping this vet can figure out what it is or at least point us in the right direction! She has little bumps all over, most of which never come to a head. They don't seem to bother her at all, they aren't red and she doesn't scratch at them. She does lose the hair wherever they pop up though. Frontline is a no go for us. Tried it once and within 30 minutes Brinks was trying to rub her skin off. It was red and inflammed where we applied the Frontline. We washed it right off and within a few hours she was ok again. We have to use a pill now instead....can't think of the name off the top of my head. She's currently on fish oil, coconut oil, and Vit E, which we recently added, for her skin. She also gets cranberry pills everyday to help keep the UTIs away! I've never heard of zinc or Vit A, though! Definitely worth looking into! Thanks! |

| with the vitamin A you have to make sure not to give too much. Thor gets one pill of Vit. A and Zinc a day. I checked with my vet before i gave him any of it. I found some articles back then. One if them was this on DVM 360 http://veterinarynews.dvm360.com/dvm....jsp?id=162405. I'm not sure if the Melatonin helped or not but I read an article that said if it helped and you discontinue it, it might not help a second time. I asked my vet about it and he said it doesn't hurt him, is not incredibly expensive so why not continue it.
I added the vitamin E later when he ws dx with discoid lupus on his nose. So I don't think that was what helped with the hair initially.
