| Does your pup bark? what age? Our female pup Gracie is now around 14 weeks old. We have never heard her bark! She is our only dog at this time and my thinking is she is not vocal because one she is so young, and two there is nothing to bark at/with. Oh, but she will let out a WHINE around 4 am when its time to get the day going.
Is your pup barking and what age?
Nice input please! I am sensitive....and my friend Heineken watched playoffs (Colts lost)with me today........LOL

| she's probably not exaggerating. Deckard came from a litter of screamers.
his first real "big boy" bark hit at around 4 or 5 months. |

| Khaos is very vocal. He howls, sing, squeaks, whines and jodles. He play barks alot trying to get the other dogs to play with him. I only heard a "serious" bark out of him twice and not much of it at that.

| Angus was always the vocal one in his litter haha ..we were warned when we got him
He pretty much barked at the front door after a couple of weeks of having him, but it wasn't until about 4 months of age that he started to sound like a big dog, and not a tiny puppy

let out a small "ruff" last week as she took a power nap. |

| Prime started alert barking in the yard when I got him, 5 months. The breeder said he hadn't done this prior. He is 3 now and has never been one to incessantly bark or bark at nothing. He prefers to stare down and emit a low growl/grumble at perceived threats. |

| I think Mom & Dad can encourage the early barking, to bring it out or discourage it somewhat...and owners may not realize, their individual actions.
- dober pups are a product of their enviroment // we can be the catalyst or not, our help works
Our 1st dobe (Tanya) wasn't the best watch dog (at a young age), but back in 1977 we lived in an apartment for the first year, and since we lived right beside the super of the building...we didn't praise or encourage her speaking out...hearing noises from people walking down the hall way...indirectly, we had shuned off her natural protection instincts.
Our 2nd dobe (Amy) started to whine at 9 weeks old, to get up on our sons bed (at night)...and it worked...the puppy whine/expression was rewarded.
I can't remember now at what age she started barking, but she was always rewarded big time for being vocal...Dad would bait her and say, "whats that, show Dad"...always winding the puppy up.
Soon she was a "cracker jack" of a watch dog, with unbelievable balance...if anyone knocked at our house door or steped on the property, she alerted us ASAP.
Current dobe #3 (puppy Kelly) gave out her first bark at 10 weeks old and first bark/growl a few weeks later.
At 16 weeks old, out at the reno house (last week) was a knock at the front door...and the growls came out loud & clear...I voice praise her, "show Dad", and as I go to open the door, I say "enough".
Tonight while we were eating super, she looks up at us and does a barky/barky...we laugh for 10-15 seconds, before giving out the strong verbal command "enough" - but the point is, when it happens, the vocal is encouraged first (even asking for our food, or to be spoiled)...and I judge if the growling should continue/increase &/or stop.

| My puppy ( now 10 weeks old ) barked since she was 8 weeks old. She would bark at a balloon, vacuum cleaner, carpet cleaner etc. I even have a video of her ( have to upload it from my camera ) when she first saw our carpet cleaner - she barked. Cute puppy bark...She's so smart though, once she saw that the big scary vacuum/carpet cleaner won't hurt her, then she was fine. Now, I can vacuum/clean next to her, and we have no issues.
She also likes to whine and even howl. Very very vocal. Which is kind of nice, because my other dog is mostly quiet. |

| You will wish for her to bark now but when she starts you may wish her to stop! lol .. Bella was very quiet, still is for the msot part. She doesnt bark alot but when she does she means business. I think she was almost 7 months when we heard her bark at something outside, but she didnt do it very often, most of the time it was a play bark at her sister if she made any noise at all. And she has never growled at anything other than her sister during play.

| Griffin is 12 weeks today. In the last week he has taken up barking at his hide chew in his crate and his ostrich thigh bone in his outside kennel. It's quite a show - it includes growling, barking and alot of scuffling accompanied by banging on the sides of the crate or kennel as he rolls about and kicks and claws his way around. Twit.
When my husband got home from work today he said he could hear Griffin barking - not whining, just loud rousing barking, nonstop, when he was still inside the car with the engine on |

| There are different types of barks so it just depends what you are "looking for."
Since we do schutzhund I am pretty in tune with what type of bark she is producing. She started play/prey barks at home around 4 months. She started prey barks at schutzhund club around 6 months. She started alert barking around 7 months.
She is now 9 months old and does prey and alert barks with pretty consistent results.
If you are trying to get your dog to bark I would suggest frustrating them with a toy...tease them with it to the point of them not being able to get it. Once they bark, reward them with the toy. Sometimes once they learn their voice is there, they will just start using it. |

| Parker let out his first bark at five months and it was a serious one that scared my neighbor because, she said, she wasn't expecting such a deep bark.
He was always a screamer! I used to, and sometimes still do, tell him that he screams like a little girl!

It's been a hard day's night And I've been working like a dog
It's been a hard day's night
I should be sleeping like a log
But when I get home to you
I find the things that you do
Will make me feel alright.
You know I work all day
To get you money to buy you things
And it's worth it just to hear you say
You're going to give me ev'rything...... "A Hard Day's Night" - is a song by the English rock band the Beatles. Written by John Lennon,[2] and credited to Lennon–McCartney, it was released on the movie soundtrack of the same name in 1964. It was later released as a single, with "Things We Said Today" as its B-side.
The song featured prominently on the soundtrack to the Beatles' first feature film, A Hard Day's Night, and was on their album of the same name. The song topped the charts in both the United Kingdom and United States when it was released as a single. Featuring a prominent and unique opening chord, the song's success demonstrated that the Beatles were not a one-hit wonder in the US.
The American and British singles of "A Hard Day's Night" as well as both the American and British albums of the same title all held the top position in their respective charts for a couple of weeks in August 1964, the first time any artist had accomplished this feat.

| Our girl let out her first big girl grumbles when we went outside and there was a mama bear and 3 cubs in the yard, probably around a year old, can't really remember. The sound that came out of her raised the hair on my neck. Mama bear ditched the cubs and took off, never looked back. Heard that grumble once more, on vacation in Maine, with a possible mountain lion in the woods next to our cabin. Once again raised the hair on my neck. You would have thought she was 300 pounds with the sounds that came out of our lil girl. Other than that, she is somewhat vocal, but never "real" barks, usually high pitch excited yelps lol |

| We "lost" Flirt at our hotel in Palm Springs this weekend. PANIC set in. We had a patio and I knew the outside door was shut, but the in/out door was open. For 5 minutes, we raced around calling her name, poking our head over and over in the crates (like you coul d miss a full grown Dobe)...FINALLY Hubby opened the bathroom. There she was quiet as a peep.
Now she does alert bark and started at about 5 months. She makes play sounds more shrieking and screaing than barking. And she isn't an incessant barker. If she barks, something is there (it may or may not be appropriate fo rher to continue barking though!)
