| Introducing Zeke (and owner) Hello everyone! I wanted to drop a line and introduce myself and Zeke! I have been wanting a Doberman for over 20 years, but the time was never right, but I never quit looking at them and reading. Finally, my wife and I decided it would be a good time to add a new puppy to our family. Our kids are older (6,8,16,18) and we now live in a great rural community with 3 acres, a pond and a park.
I have been reading (lurking) here in Doberman Talk for about 18 months, just trying to make heads or tails of all of the information and misinformation you can find on the internet. Finally I reached out to a breeder I found here just to talk about the breed and get an opinion if we would make a good family to a Doberman. I found out that based on our conversation we would likely be a good candidate, and we were referred to another breeder in our area that happened to currently have puppies. This breeder had not had a breed in nearly 18 years and seemed to be extremely into the breed itself. I cannot say enough about our breeder and her circle of friends and colleagues. Professional, dedicated and very informed.
Well a few visits and weeks later we had our puppy. It just worked out that I was able to pick him up on Christmas Eve! Let me tell you, when I walked in the door that evening with Zeke, our 8 year old son just melted and began crying. He was so happy to have a "new brother".
While his Mom and Dad are both show dogs, both of them very successfully, we just love to have him as part of our family. He is absolutely spoiled already. We have already had three training sessions with his certified trainer and he is very well mannered. Heck, he even has his own Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/zeke.the.dobe
Thanks to all for your guidance and wisdom, I am glad I found this forum and some great people to assist us in finding our perfect dog.

My boy is from a show breeder and his were that short when I got him at 5 months. The quick is very short and a dremel helps it recede and makes the nail look nice and polished. Dobermans are supposed to have cat like feet and short nails help.
Welcome OP! Lovely pup and photos.

| Thanks to all for warm welcome!
As for the nails, they are short and Zeke is doing fine with them. We were taught, very well I might add, to use a dremel to keep them trimmed. We hit them every couple weeks or so, I have done them myself once. I find it very easy and we have had no issues with any bleeding. He actually slept through most of the 10 minute process. I think it is one of those things that if you keep up with them it is very easy to do. |

I am so glad I decided to email you when I did. It may sound corny, but we feel Zeke is the PERFECT dog for our family. His temperament, smarts and activity level suit us very well. I really think Zeke has given the family something back we may have lost along the way...family time together. Every night my wife, myself and my 4 kids spend time together in the family room with Zeke and each other. No TV, no video games, just playing with the dog and enjoying each other. You could say that he is the glue that gets us together. That time was a little rare before Zeke and I love that we have it back!
Thanks Michelle, we owe you one! |

Wish we had nails that short. Maybe another day of dremeling... |
